qotd: All I really know about is some of their wines, and the main reason for me goin there would be to see the wineries. The history would be nice too
Wow just had a bottle of Chateau D'Auvernier Neuchatel yesterday. LOVE that you threw the spotlight on Switzerland wines, some killer quality there, wines that aren't explored nearly as much as they should be, but the prices are high.

One thing, Chasselas is not ONLY in Switzerland, it's made as a varietal in Alsace, the one made by Domaine Schoffitt is particularly good. Also you can find it under the Pouilly-Sur-Loire appellation in Eastern Loire Valley France too.

QOTD: SWISS WINE!! Well, if the US dollar wasn’t so WEAK right now, I think I would’ve already had some wine from Switzerland. As of now, I know about their bank accounts, their perpetually “neutral” status in international conflicts, and the fact that they like to ski.

  • QOTD: Interesting you ask that, just after i read an article in Conde Nast Traveler “Dollar Power” about where the dollar goes furthest. The Euro has strengthened alot against the Dollar, but Switzerland never switched and still uses the Swiss Franc, which has not run up as much against the Dollar. Thus making Switzerland a nice place to visit, when compared to other places in Europe.

Great episode GV!!! You know I am down with the Swiss, especially after just spending 3 months there. I drank a ton of Swiss wines while over there, including chasselas, dole, merlot, etc. Great episode!!!

Come on Gang. We need more comments than 154. This is such a great episode for comments. Excellent material.

How about Gary almost getting dissed on the handshake. She gave Gary a subtle look of Horror, like he was reaching out with a gapping blood drenched claw….

  • Excellent video as always! I’ll definitely be sharing as some friends didn’t believe me when I returned from a trip, the Swiss actually do have some fabulous wines!

  • I made a point out of trying Swiss wines. I have had the Château D’Auvernier Neuchâtel 2005, the Bonvin Dôle du Valais 2005, and the Bonvin Humagne Rouge 2005. Swizerland is more than just Roger Federer, although he’s fun to watch.

I’d love to go to Switzerland to ski those awesome mountains. And to drink some wine and eat the food.

  • Visited Switzerland on our honeymoon. Champery, Montreux and the Matterhorn specifically. Didn’t have any wine while we were there. 🙁 Definitely a goal to go back and see more of the spectacular country and get to know the culture. I will be seeking out the Rose featured on the show, for sure.

Excellent episode, a Baroness wow! Sophia is sharp, and what a great heritage!

I havenâ??t had a lot of Swiss wines, but these sound like wines that I will definitely have to seek out.

QOTD: Switzerland is one of those places I have always wanted to visit. It is on my bucket list.

QOTD. Switzerland is so pretty. I really enjoyed my time there. I’ve actually never tried one of their wines. It’s probably because I’ve always seen them as too expensive and mainly whites. But I understand that it’s very difficult (read expensive) for them to work the vineyard. I guess I’ll try to find one now.

Sophie was great. These multicultural European countries produce such talented young people!

Cool episode! Her English is amazing, and she must speak French and German fluently (seeing as she’s from Switzerland), I feel humble and small 🙂
I would love to sniffy-sniff and taste that rose, too.

  • Great episode… glad WLTV will continue on beyond the 400 mark so we can enjoy many more like this one! I live in Munich, Germany (just over an hour from the Swiss border) and Swiss wines aren’t very common here either so I always make it a point to purchase the ones I can get my dirty little paws on. Definitely a region worth covering. Keep up the great work!

  • Good show! I actually went to Switzerland this past summer since my brother and his family were living there for a while. Zurich is a beautiful city…wish I could afford it.

QOTD: The wines aren’t bad at all, but they are expensive compared to what you get here for the same price. However, I’m still always willing to give them a try because (a) Switzerland is BEAUTIFUL, (b) their winemaking history is pretty extensive, even if most of us don’t know that much about it, and (c) a couple of their really great winemakers are working in New Zealand, making some awesome wines there. Oh, and the fondue and raclette are all seriously tasty.

Wow, another great show for the record books. Thank you Sophia. I had no idea
Switzerland was producing wine. I have never seen any in the retail shops or restaraunts here in NC. I would definetly seek out and try them if they become available. Any chance Wine Library will be carrying some in the future??

Also, great finish to the show. Thanks Mark E.
