qotd: I gotta go w day boat sea scallops, w raw oysters a close 2nd when it comes to mollusc's and lobster or crab when it comes to crustaceans. But that's a really tough question since I love all shellfish.

Love Madiran, haven't had the one by Laplace, but I have had their Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec

Love the value driven shows! I have just started exploring Southern France and Portugal (pretty pathetic since I am a Portugee) but I agree- great QPR wines and a fabulous way to “step outside the box”.

QOTD: Toss up b/w scallops and shrimp- depends on the preparation and my mood.

  • BobbyTiger

It’s hide-and-seek time. Time to try to find the Carm and the Madiran. They sound like my kind of wines. Thanks for the tips. QOTD- It’s a no brainer…..SHRIMP! Steamed…….boiled……fried…….doesn’t make squat, it’s all good. [For N.E. Pat. fans, a good plate of shrimp, (with a glass of Voignier), will help you forget].

  • QOTD: Raw oysters and clams. I have to give a shout out to Craw fish though. Nothing beats a good craw fish boil. Never had wine there though. Points off.

QOTD: My favorite shellfish = Kellen Clemens, Chad Pennington, and Marshall
    Marques Tuiasosopo.

When I want something other than shrimp, I like Brett Favre (though yes, he has no ring this year, either).

Awesome show, Gary. I’m so amped you guys are adding to your Portugese offerings. I live in NYC (Boston transplant), and I begrudge the fact that even the “big” wine stores in NY/NJ seriously skimp on their Portugese offerings. Great QPR with Portugal, and I know you guys will do a good job posting tasting notes and recommendations, as you need to separate the bad from the great with Portugal (much like Chile). I try not to visit my brother-in-law often (although he lives 10 minutes from Wine Library), though I may need to take a deep breath and see him more often…that’s how much I love Portugese wines. And this is coming from an Irish kid from Boston. Talk to some Portugese guys from Newark – those guys can find the hidden gems that don’t even come close to breaking the bank!

  • Great show, thanks for reviewing the Madiran wine that you carry. I have been waiting for the review of this one and I hope to see more Tannat wines including those from Uruguay in future episodes. Kudos to the direction that your next 100 shows are taking.

Tough to pick among shellfish as I like most all of them, but I am going to have to go with the Dungeness crab (paired with a New Zealand SB) with a big shout out to crawfish.

  • Alaskan king crab…or thick, soft, and very fresh scallops…wrapped in Japanese smoked bacon, like my wife made for dinner tonight. I must give a huge nod to lobster, though. That can be magnificent.

    Hi Gary, Mott,

I just discovered you at about episode 393, thought OMG this is awesome, and then almost cried when you said 400 would be your last. I’m writing from the land of the rising sun, and have tried to “friend you up” on Facebook too. I’ve got a few nice suppliers of wine here in Tokyo, and this long weekend I will be searching for the Carm Douro perhaps as a celebratory wine for one of my longest weeks Ever at work (it’s thursday here and I’ve racked up at least 60 hours of work already). I still find time after I’m home to down load you onto my ipod and also watch a few back episodes to chill out before going to bed.

Don’t forget to friend me up on Facebook!

    Cheer,
    Kana

QOTD- Originally from New Orleans, so it would be crawfish. During the spring time there is nothing like a huge crawfish boil will family and friends outside while pounds and pounds of crawfish are dumped on the table for all to enjoy in a community style eatery. Normally everyone has beer to go with the crawfish. However, my goal for the spring time is to find a great wine to pair with spicy, spicy crawfish. Don’t forget to suck the head.
