I tried a Chinon in 2007, after your last Chinon episode. Wasn’t terribly into it, but am definitely willing to give a second try with one of these two. The last Cab Franc that I enjoyed was a wedding gift…Stepping Stone Cab Franc from Cali. If I try another one, I’ll be back to post!

I love Cab Franc, and sadly have not had a Loire CF yet. Try some of the top Walla Walla producers if you want a good new world style Cab Franc, as well as Del Rio and Foris in Southern Oregon. Not oak monsters, and beautiful balance. I WILL go out and buy a Loire valley CF today, just because you got me so pumped up about it, and probably drink with steaks tomorrow for VDay dinner!

QOTD – I definitely accept this assignment. The hunt for a Loire Cab Franc is all the excuse I need to make a little trip down to my favorite wine shop this weekend! And I’ll provide a full report afterwards. Bring on the veggies!!

Gary – Great show today. Don’t let too many of us in on the secret about Cab Franc from the Loire! Next thing you will be telling them about Red Sancerre!!Seriously, you are absolutely dead on with Loire Reds. Wonderful that the two Loire Cab Francs blew away the overpriced Cali Cab Franc.

QOTD: I had a cabernet franc on Monday, but I may break out another this weekend. Drank a: 2002 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses. This was the last bottle of a case I bought a few years ago. Fun to see how this wine evolved with age.

My Tasting Note: Tasty Chinon and a great QPR. A much more balanced wine as it matures. Leather, earthy and red fruit on the nose. Ruby garnet in color and showing signs of age at the rim. On the palate a good bit of red fruit – raspberry, strawberry – and some musky flavors. A medium finish on the medium bodied wine.

I have feeling Larkin will do AOK, even with your PAZZZZZ, GV, so don’t sweat it. I agree by the way, in terms of your feelings about “made up” wines.

QOTD: I had a Bourguiel this past Sunday, a 2004 Mabileau, and I warned everyone to expect the veggie funk and it had a bit but it was way smooth with very nice fruit wrapped around those veggies.

Can’t believe I missed a CF show. Hell, I’ve been on board since Episode 36!

Should I be worried about having to pay Bordeaux prices for Chinon?

But I love me some CF so I will of course accept your challenge, there’s an older bottle of Bourgueil I picked up in Texas I’m curious about …
