Purely coincidental that I am drinking a Dark Horse pinot as I watched this. Found it on clearance at Tar-jay. That should have been all the clue I needed, but curiosity got the better of me. Meh is the best I can give it. But, I tried something new! 😉

No Oregon Pinots… yet! Very hard to find here in Ontario…

    Great show (yet again)!

The big O…that’s all I drink since I saw this movie “Sideways”. haha. I love the Pinot especially those that have plenty of mushrooms and forest up in there. being in Washington doesn’t hurt for the selection. Although I can’t remember the last good one I had? The last three where ho-hum, and I agree with a previous writer: the A to Z wasn’t very memorable.

  • Phil M’Glassup

Anybody who knows Phil M’Glassup knows he’s a big Pinot person. But I must say, I’ve had terrible luck with Oregon pinots. Of course, I’m not writing off an entire region, but the ones I’ve picked seem wan and watery and listless, tight with a reticent nose and ungenerous flavors. The worst offender was the ridiculously overhyped 05 Shea Estate which had the unfortunate characteristics I mentioned above. And the bottle costs a ridiculous $50. And I bought two (am looking to rade the other one for a decent burg or Cali pinot). The GrapeRadio guys reviewed this wine and they too were muzzled by the hype, undercriticizing which they also found to be an underwhelming wine.
I am hopeful about the Patricia Green Estate wine I bought from WL but forum users say it needs time so don’t know when I’ll get to it. Don’t want to be disppointed again.
And Happy Valentine’s Day to my beloved Jen Pipes. If you ever get to nyc, I’ve got a big Pinot to share with you. Hmmmm. . .maybe that didn’t come out right.

Great episode Gary, had me laughing.

QOTD: Can’t say I drink much wine from Oregon. And by the way I believe it’s pronounced like Organ or Oregan with the short AN, not actually ON. At least that’s how most people I know in Washington pronounce it.

Yup. In fact, I just tasted a horizontal of the 2005 Cristom single vineyards
today. They were great. I liked the Sommners Reserve and the Jessie Vineyard
    in particular.

i am super curious about the oregon pinot. it is something that i look for when i go to the states. the last bottle i had was a domaine drouhin, 2003, inot noir. i opened it for some friends in france that like burgundy. they liked it. it was a little new wave riding the fence on new and old. i liked it too. it was about as much new world as i can take. it was like a burgundy on a little juice.
the last bottle of oregon pinot is evesham wood, cuvee J, 2004. i am going to wait on it a bit. i actually say some oregon pinot in my grocery store in switzerland. i think it was duck pond 04.

    love the oregon pinot shows.

Glad to see some local stuff today. Being a Portlander, Oregon pinot is what I’m most into (it is generally expensive though). Next time you should do some Oregon heavy hitters or cult stuff. Some are- Beaux Freres, Ken Wright, Shea, Hamacher, St Innocent, Dusky Goose, etc… all of which seem to have a healthy amount of ‘buzz’ surrounding them. It would be fun to see how the “top” Oregon pinots hold up on WLTV- maybe in comparison to the “top” California pinots (ie Sea smoke, kosta browne, etc). If you can get your hands on a Thomas pinot I’d love to see that- I’ve heard only outstanding things about Thomas. And the last O pinot I had was a Broadley Shea 06 which was AWESOME!

    Pinot mania baby!
Thanks Gary for going to oragan. Nice cork goal too! Yeah, still likin that pinot despite all the crap, pinot gris too as an alternative.
Latest was Addamo 2005. Huge nose that would light up your office and thrill Mott on it’s way doing it. There were complex flavors that I’ll let you explain when you taste it; but basically, cherries, strawberries, cedar, flowers, spring, summer, autumn and winter on the farm. Good stuff, funny how it ripped another SB county offering we drank with it that was just about the same price. You never can tell.

Brandon T, rock on, that was cool.

To Orgone homers: Please try some high quality Calif pinots sometime. Cheers

HEY GARY…Stop putting your fingers over the wine labels when you hold them up for the camera. Please. Thank you.

Yes……… We have tryed Oregonian Pinot !

    A little pricey………but delicious; “Ponzi”

Health note! Oregon Pinot’s boast the highest levels of reservatrol on the planet. Certainly a very good reason to drink them.

    Up with Oregon Pinot’s !

QOTD: YES I drink the big O, but definitely not enough… I blame the prices on new world pinot… and in turn blame Sideways.
STANGELAND Pinot Noir was the last Oregon Pinot I had.

P.S. Happy Valentines Day to you and Liz, and to Mamma Vaynerchuk and Sasha.

I used to love pinot, but have been having trouble finding one I like lately…maybe it’s be evolving PAL! Anyway, no OR ones lately, but just yesterday I tasted a local pinot that reeked of twizzlers…the winemaker wasn’t quite sure how to handle that descriptor.

QOTD: The last Oregon Pinot we drank was the Dobbs Assemblage–wasn’t that crazy about it. Had the EIEIO and recall bacon and meat juices(venison and Slim Jims to you). Visited Oregon in 2005. Absolutely loved it. Brought back a wine called The Pines 1852–it was a 2001 Zin, extremely well-made. Also a Christopher Bridge Pinot.

  • Great show! I love Pinot Noir. My tasting group is having a Pinot Noir tasting next Wednesday here in my place. QOTD: I’d have to say no. I’d love to, but I don’t remember the last time I had Oregon Pinot Noir. Next Wed, I’m bringing Cali Pinot. Hopefully someone will bring Oregon. I also have Chile and Marlborough (NZ).
