You’re DAMN RIGHT I’ve been trying new things! Most recently: a Cab Franc from Friuli, and next will be a Mencia from Bierzo.

Way to crank out these shows, Gary and Mott! Maybe next time you have to do a series like this, you could change shirts between episodes to make it seem like days are passing. 😉

QOTD: I recently had Pindar winery’s Pythagoras (from Long Island), a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Yummy. I can’t recall having any other wines recently from NY State… I’ll have to search some out.

QOTD1. Always trying. I went to two wine tastings this week. One was given by an importer/distributor friend of mine and featured the wines of a producer from Oltrepo Pavese in Lombardia, Italy. The lineup included a white (!) Pinot Noir, and a wine made from a grape called Uva Rara. The other wine tasting this week was given by my local wine store and featured Alsatian whites and Spanish reds (mostly Rioja’s but also a wine from Alicante).

QOTD2. Probably my last New York wine was Lieb Cellars. I especially like their non-reserve Chardonnay. Their reserve Chardonnay has a bit more oak than I like.

QOTD – I try to attend two wine tastings a week. It is fun to try wines from around the world. In the past two years I have had wines from India, Morocco, Israel, Bulgaria, Lebanon, and the Czech Republic. Who knew they all made decent wines. I had a NY riesling last year and it was OK. It may be time to try another NY wine. Thanks for showing us the world of wine.

1980’s NWA Wrestling Rules! Here’s a few names to jog your memory…Ole and Arn Anderson, The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette (tennis racket in hand), Magnum TA, Tully Blanchard, Baby Doll…the list goes on and on!

Let me not forget to mention the two greatest wrestlers of any decade: The Nature Boy Rick Flair and The American Dream Dusty Rhodes.

QOTD1: Always trying new things–thinking about trying Stones ginger wine from the UK. Am going back to varietals that I haven’t really enjoyed in the past and giving them another whirl.

QOTD2: Coincidentally, the Herman Weimer Semi-Dry Riesling to represent NY at our SuperBowl Party–paired well with the Citrus-Wings and Spicy Ribs. One of my favorite Finger-Lake producers. Also love a Reserve Riesling from Red Newt Cellars-can’t recall if that’s Finger Lakes or Hudson Valley region. You should try to bring in some of that, though it was 20 bones about 3-5 years ago. Well worth it to me. Yummmm…..

QOTD#1: I’m always trying new things. Looking for new things to try is part of the fun.

QOTD#2: Last New York wine I had was Bully Hill marechal foch. I live a few hours away from the Finger Lakes region and have been thinking of going down there sometime to see some vineyards when my Dad goes down for indie car races.

    Hey Gary-
Well….I don’t know how many wine reps. in my area (southern CA) carry Non-CA dometic wines. It’s a shame, but I haven’t seen any around to buy, so…no…I’ve never had a wine from the finger lakes.

Gary, I am a California boy (Bay Area). I don’t believe I have ever seen a NY wine here (or course I haven’t looked). The Gerwertztraminer sounded interesting. AJ

  • Expanding my wine taste? Yes. I don’t particularly like “Ports”, but I have found one produced here in Idaho – yes, I know, Ida-Who? – by Vin du Bois winery. It is an awesome “port”. Maybe I’ll send you some so you can add Idaho to your Washington and Oregon scope.

What up GV. I have been taking your advice and have not purchased the same bottle of wine for the last 6 months, hence continuingly trying new wines. I recently broke away from my fear of white wines, and am finding that they are just as good as reds.

QOTD: Have not tried any NY wines that I can recall. 🙁

Keep up the GREAT work. Love winelibrarytv!

…during the holidays we(t.j.’s)had a late harvest Jackson-Triggs from this region. Lots of olive and olive oiliness to it. It was a trip. I did not think that people would get it, but they got it ALL!!…oh yeah and the 2005 Rocher Calon pretty darn good, and ten bones in Cali.
