Ugh, what was there only like a case of this stuff in stock?

QOTD: None that have made me react that way, yet. The closest was probably the 2003 Ramey Diamond Mountain Blend.

QOTD:Actually tonight I had an amazing Echezeaux Grand Cru 2002. Too bad it was a gift from a friend and the winemaker no longer makes wines, but man was it unearthly good stuff.

Thanks for the “just joshin ya” reference that I know you did just for my sake

2002 Foxen Foothills Reserve. I had one bottle summer 2007. I’m holding another for next year. It is a great mix of new world/old world style.

  • KVolk

QOTD: none makes me act the way you do at least not until I have drank most of it….first time I drank a opus one for a celebratory occasion maybe…

    GO Honey Dog!!

GV – good episode. I tried to buy the CA Pinot from WL but it was history only 45 comments to the wind. SO, I bought the ’06 directly from Phillips Hill. Even though you reviewed the ’05 I had to give it a shot. I mean the last time you were that excited about anything was when Broadway Joe was hitting on Susie Kolber during the Jets/Pats game. If Joe can wear a fur coat on the sidelines, I can spring $40 on a bottle of Pinot.

  • Really enjoyed the PN Head-to-Head.

Immediately went to the Phillips Hill web site and ordered 6 — it was not the 2005, only 2006 is available from the winery — hopefully it will be great too. Then did a search for the 2005 and found it and order 6 more — can’t wait.
    Love the Head-to-Head format!

QOTD: probably the Andretti zinfandel/primitivo – I think 2005, or the Rippon pinot noir 2002 from Otaga.
We have a couple of Amisfelds PInots 2004 that we like a lot.

  • James H

Best wine I ever had was 2003 Rasteau, Côtes-Du-Rhône Villages. French, grenache noir, and totally awesome. I day dream about that puppy.

I’d have to say the 2005 Lily Pinot Noir was the last wine to really wow me, which is interesting because I really dig Merlot and am tired of all the Pinot-Hype. Bias does play a part.

Good show, â??Hey Timmy!â? Classic stuff. Full â?? time Lurker first â?? time comment. QOTD: I had an opportunity to barrel taste at Copain in March 2005. I had some of the assistant wine makeâ??s private stash, a project he was working on, a syrah, best liquid to ever grace my PAL. Keep it up Vaynerchuk.

  • RonC

Very good episode. Too bad you don’t have any Phillips Hill in stock.

QOTD: Still haven’t found a wine I’ve flipped over.

  • QOTD:
Heissenberg Gewurztraminer – for my ‘pal’ I can’t think of any more profound wine than Gverz, although the Treana Viognier/Marsanne is a close second, both of these made me think white wine is in many ways ‘better’ than red, and it all doesn’t have to be oaky chard or lemonade.

One of the best wines I’ve ever had was a 97 Brunello di Montalcino from a producer near San Gimignano that doesn’t export. My husband and I had a taste of the either 90 or 95 Brunello from the same producer that was phenomenal as well.

It never fails, as soon as I say: Okay, I can’t buy any more wine for a while … GV goes berserk over something that sounds right up my alley. So here I am, deciding its worth $20 to fedex to not have to drive two hours to the nearest store I found with the 2005 in stock.

QOTD: Probably a 2001 Borgogno Barolo that I still have a couple bottles of stashed away for safekeeping. I can’t say that my reaction was as animated, and I wonder if I’d react as strongly to it now as I did even then, as I drank it just last year, on a night that kind of sent my wine-lust on the full throttle ride its been on for the last few months (and finding this show just after christmas dropped a brick on the gas pedal).

  • I’d be curious to see if any of the Vayniacs procur any of the Toulouse. I will make a feeble attempt very soon.

QOTD: Good question but I’ll have to say it was probably an ’85 Opus I had about a year ago.

    Hey Timmy! 🙂

Panther Creek Pinot Noir kicks ass. By the way, I do have one of the original wristbands so I’m feeling hardcore.

Awesome episode!!! I love these battles. Boomshaklaka I ordered two bottles from the winery and begged to be on the list. Thank you GVNC!

QOTD: I recently had a bottle of the 2004 Pride Merlot and it made me say the F word out loud against my will because it so good. Seriously.

QOTD: Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon 2005. Had it last night on a whim at Canyon Creek and it totally blew me away.

I know you like to call it the “silk alert” but I seriously think that “liquid velvet” sounds better, and totally applies to the finish on this wine. At ~$25 CAD (if you can find it) a total steal. If you’ve experienced Peter Lehmann Shiraz, think that type of finish, but with a lot smoother attack and mid-pallet.

As was mentioned below, they are selling the 2006 on their site, not the 2005. I bought them anyway. And they completely upped their production to a whopping 150 cases. 😉
