Welcome back, Garry. I think for many of us, you’ve become a regular part of our daily lives, something that we look forward to,

QOTD: I just finished a bottle of 2005 Vale de Bomfim Douro Reserva, which at $8.00 a bottle is a pretty good value, and I probably wouldn’t have tried it if you hadn’t pushed me to expand my palate.

  • Welcome back to the T-show GaryVee ~ Great EP, glad you reviewed the Hedges CMS, it definitely is a work horse.
Qotd: Last wine I had is a friends wine from a brand new winery in Washington State,Alia Cellars, 2005 Syrah by John Olsen. I belong to a tasting group of fellow winemakers and in a double blind tasting of 9 Syrah wines(Wa,Ca,France), the Alia Cellars beat out some of Washingtons best, McCrea Cellars, K Syrah, DeLilles Doyenne to mention a few. Good stuff, but only produced about 50 cases which is pretty much sold out. See you at Taste, Wa ~ Max

QOTD: I’m 15 so I’ve never had any wine but I had some grape juice today and it didn’t bring thunder but there were some static shocks. Not bad stuff, Welch’s knows what’s up.

  • manonthemoon

Owen Roe 2005 Ex Umbris Syrah

This wine brought Major Thunder with its amazing fruit forwardness, but the smokiness and complexity to round out this nice offering. Lurker out.

  • Chateau_Plonk

Thorn Clark Shotfire Bordeaux blend from Barossa. No acidity, zero tannin, smokey oak, cloyingly rich fruit. I had no desire to finish the glass. Absolute crap. No thunder. 92 points WS though!

  • JWard

QOTD: 2005 Chateau de Seguin Bordeaux. Brought structured, restrained thunder. Green bell peppers, black pepper, a little tomato on the nose. Moderate fruit, pepper, and some friendly oak on the palate. Long dry finish. Well worth the $10 at Trader Joes.

    Nice to have you back!

    Lurker stepping into the light…

QOTD: Stormhoek 2006 Sauvignon blanc. I’ve been tasting a disproportionate amount of reds lately and thought I would try something different. Both the nose and taste are dominated by the smell/taste of a hair “perm”, as in the chemicals used. It wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t purchase it again for the price (~15$)

  • EXCELLENT SHOW! It’s so good to have you back.

QOTD: 2006 Cousino-Macul Merlot. I really liked it when I first opened it, but had to reaseal it then I’ve been home on spring break–yesterday it was getting a little funky. Definitely a good buy for $10 though, and very widely available.

Loving the energy baby! Can’t wait to seek out that last wine, it sounds incredible. QOTD: right now i’m drinking the 2005 Marques de Casa Concha merlot and it is rocking! This is the first Chilean wine i’ve had that I enjoy and this kicks the crap out of any merlot i’ve had for under twenty bucks. Last night I had the 2003 Longwood reserve shiraz from McClaren Vale which absolutely blew my mind, I couldn’t beleive how balanced it was. Can’t wait to get my hands on the secret pack.

Last weekend I finally opened up the Dry Furmint from the secret pack. It was the first white wine I’d had in months and I was pleasantly surprised. Borderline over-sweet for my palate, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks for the pick GV!!

QOTD: Pewsey Vale Riesling, from Eden Valley Australia. Paid $11 or $12. Did not bring the thunder, very lifeless. I much prefer anything from Washington, even the $6-7 grocery store versions.

Last wine? One of my favorites, the Sofia Blanc de Blancs. It was a ‘pass’ this time because it doesn’t pair well with barley stew and cornbread. I had no beer though, and I wanted something effervescent to cut through the stew. It was the only thing I had…

The Partal sounds amazing. I really need to work on training my pallet. Thanks for the reviews~
