welcome back! qotd: last wine I had was the la tendance from the secret 4 pack. I enjoyed it a lot, but I’ve been drinking a 6 dollar rose lately that brings about the same amount of thunder, so I’ve gotta say the $20 rose is unfortunately a pass for me.

QOTD: Mauro Vannucci Il Sasso Carmignano 2005. It’s pretty good, a bit tight, I’m giving it 24 hours to open up and see how it does then.

Great to have you back Gary!
QOTD The Partal that featured in the show today, I liked it a lot, with it we had a filet topped with peppered brie, parsnip puree, onion con fit.

QOTD. Last wine was 2006 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. Also had some 1999 Vina Urbezo (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Tempranillo) from Carinena, Spain, leftover from the night before. Both were “serviceable” and decent value, but neither were especially thunderous.

BTW, on at least one of the collage-shows of the last couple days, I would have left a comment, but no comment button appeared.

  • Great to have you back GV. Had a Bracco Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2003 last night at an Italian restaurant and it did bring the thunder. Finally got a wine that everyone at the table liked and decent QPR.

  • SOOO happy to have you back! I love your energy. It’s so contagious!

QOTD: Last night, my boyfriend and I had two rosés. I only remember the name of one of them, so that will be my last wine ;-): Pink Goat Syrah Rosé (Chile) –> I think it was a 2006 or 2007. It was really great to just drink! Lower acidity and alcohol than the other one we had, but as a result didn’t go as well with our spicy thai food. The other rosé’s citrus and strawberry fruit plus the acidity was not so good on its own, but with the food kicked butt!

We never would have thought to try rosé if not for your emphatic mantra: try new things! Thanks, GV!

  • MtnCharlie

    Welcome back Gary!

QOTD: We had five wines with friends recently:
1992 Russian River white table wine. (Was way past its prime. Not bad, but we didn’t drink it).
1997 Cronin Central Coast Pinot Noir. (Again way past, but we drank some of that).
2006 Vermentino. I cannot remember the producer. (Serviceable, had it with enchiladas)
2 Gewurztraminers, One from Claiborne & Churchill and the other I cannot remember. Both fairly dry.
Really only the wines that stood out as interesting were the Vermentino and the Claiborne & Churchill Gewurztraminer.

Okay, this lurker is coming out to post. 🙂

Unfortunately, the last wine we drank was brought to our house as gift, and it wasn’t bad, but definitely no thunder either. A good “cooking wine.” It was a Smoking Loon Syrah. We’re going to a tasting tonight and have high hopes, however.

Thanks for the fun and interesting shows, Gary!

    Gary,

2 nights ago I had the Ferrari Carano 2005 Siena Sangiovese and thought it was pretty good. Not mind blowing.

Thanks for trying the Partal on the show; as I mentioned I thought it would be a good wine for all to try.

    Later,

I recently had a Cotes du Rhone white blend (5 diff grapes) and it brought serious thunder. It was only $32 in a restaurant, so probably half that in stores. I never thought to drink white Cotes du Rhones but I’m glad I did.

Last wine was a Rutherford Ranch cab Napa Valley 2004 and yes it was very good. I think is is going to be difficult to find a 2004 cab from Napa that is not going to be good.

Glad to see you review another Washington wine! However, the price point you gave for Hedges CMS is a little out of date. It now goes for $12 retail, but you can find it for less. You ought to give Hedges Three Vineyards a try ($22). These are some of the best values offered by a Red Mountain winery.

  • Joe S

QOTD: It as a beautiful day in Denver, about 60 degrees and we had a 2005 Shepherds Ridge SB and it was great sipping wine in the sun on the back porch.
