Now that’s why I love the WLTV – as far as I am concerned, the NUMBER 1 wine show on the net.

Went out and found 05 Bordeaux at the local store and could not find much, but I intend to have one of them tomorrow. Either the Chateau Tour de Gillet or the Chateau Fage Graves de Vayres.

QOTD: This weekend, I will be drinking a bottle of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a delicious Italian white wine. It is one of only 36 wines from Italy that hold the prestigious “Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita” (DOCG) status. You should try it out, Gary.

QOTD: I’m not sure what we are having on Sunday (Easter) as yet. What goes with ham? 🙂

Tonight we had a nice bottle of 2005 M. Chapoutier Cote du Rhone with our five -spice duck breast. It was quite nice and a good QPR.

Oh Gary. My husband is a WLTV widower. It’s funny… right now my husband is on tour (he’s a musician) for 11 weeks, and we only connect on iChat. Miss Vivian loves to talk with her daddy on the computer… she giggles and coos and reaches for the screen. But today when I was watching WLTV Vivian was giggling and cooing and reaching for YOU! When she hears that “Hello everyone, and welcome…” she perks right up.

QOTD: I’m drinking some wine from the Finger Lakes! Swedish Hill Reisling, to be precise. It’s totally yummy.

p.s. GIVE UP THE SCORING. Wine isn’t math, it’s art. Find some other awesome way to rate wines. I’m going to mull this over and figure out a new GV rating system. I’ll get back to you.

GARY – You need to try the Zanzibar Cellars “Sandra” – Produced by Zanzibar Cellars in Oregon. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Syrah all sourced from Washington (Horse Heaven Hills I think). The wine is really tasty and creamy and if you sample it this weekend you’ll be sendin’ me a shout-out ’cause it rocks!

I don’t understand the comments on the Mirande. I didn’t get the same stuff you did. Wasn’t a bad bottle, but it was one of the worst wines I’ve had, and I’m a CDP lover.

  • Sassodoro

Great show, Gary! Lots of energy!

QOTD. Sorry that I’m watching a few days late. It may already be too late for you to taste this stuff, if you feel like it. Last night (Saturday) Mrs. Sassodoro made a pappardelle Bolognese, and Sangiovese with some age on it seemed the appropriate thing, so I opened a 1999 Caparzo Rosso di Montalcino and a 1999 Fontodi Chianti Classico. The Caparzo was nice, with some hints of leather and tobacco, but not as wonderful as I remembered from previous bottles. The Fontodi, however, was an unexpected hit. It had this huge floral nose of violets and lavendar.

The wine for tonight, though, is one you should try: 2002 Dal Fari “Rutilum”. That’s a 100% Schioppettino from Colli Orientali del Friuli, in Northeastern Italy. Schioppettino is probably a new grape for a lot of Vayniacs, and I think it would be of interest, at least to Old World fans. “Rutilum” is Dal Fari’s Riserva bottling, and I find it complex and intriguing. (See http://www.dalfari.com/skedeing/SCHIOPrut.htm for their spec sheet on it.) I see that you don’t offer it at Wine Library. I don’t know where you can get it in your neck of the woods. Around here, the importer for it is Beverly Malen at Imports Inc./Chicago (email: info@imports-inc.com website: http://www.imports-inc.com/index.html). I do think you would enjoy it.

  • Hey GV,
Great show, great energy, you were almost manic, which is when you’re at your best. Sorry I didn’t get a chance to watch before the weekend because I’m a huge fan of CDP and would’ve loved to order some before it sold out (those are great prices!).
QOTD: after the fact, but we had a real fun blind tasting of Cab Franc’s, 2 from Virginia, one from PA, and one from it’s Chinon. We had a blast! The PA wine was the big surprise – it was quite good. The French wine was the least favored!
    Keep up the great work.

Okay, I decided to have a 2000 Chateau du Tertre Margaux on Easter with my family. It was beautiful – smooth and structured – very enjoyable, even with the ham. 😉

  • hey Gary,
Have you tried any Tablas Creek wines from Paso Robles? They’re a partner winery to Chateau de Beaucastel and they planted their vines from C. de B.castel rootstock…cool idea and some tasty wines.

  • Gary, Thanks for the great show for my birthday. You knocked it out of the park. I totally want to go out and get a chat du pape now. Just thought it was a fun name before.

I’m late for the QOTD, but I was going to drink the Secret 4 pack wines from episode 421 with the family in for Easter. However, it didn’t work out and we’ll have to do it another time.

One of my favorite episodes of all time!!! This weekend we had the Chateau St. Michelle Reisling. Has anyone heard of it? Just kidding 🙂 Sometimes you have to try the grocery store wines too right. It was actually pretty darn good with Easter ham. Hope everyone had a happy Easter and now I’m off to watch the next episode. Cheers!
