QOTD: What Italian food do I NOT like? I absolutely adore Italian food, and Italian wines. I am a fan of Northern and Southern Italian food, and it really just depends on what I am in the mood for. Most of the time, I tend to choose butter/cream based sauces, but If I am enjoying a big Italian red, give me some red sauce, baby!

Nice to have you back and yes, it does feel a bit “out of touch” when your episodes are from remote locations (or have a pre-taped feel). By the way, you might want to interject some current events in your vids so we feel “timely” if that makes sense. It’s always fun during football season when you talk about a game coming up on the weekend. Again, it makes it feel timely (for lack of a better word).

QOTD: Now you’re hitting my pal. Italian food. I’m a huge Venice lover. I try to go every other year. So my faves tend to be seafood based. #1 is seafood risotto. My second is seppia con nero over spaghetti. Seppia con nero is cuttlefish cooked in it’s own ink. When done right (and not overpowering) this is a simply wonderful Italian dish.

What Italian food don’t I like? Pasta is great, Truffles are great, Risotto is great. It’s all good!

Nice to see you guys back, I really like the episodes on the road though, fun stuff!

Gary, very interesting show today. I could hear the thunder in NC.
QOTD: For me, it has to be the veal dishes. Osso buco of course with saffron risotto. Maybe veal ravioli with sage butter. Brunello would be my choice to wash it down. Also, my wife and I were wondering who gets to drink the wine from the show. Surely Mott doesn’t drink it all.

And what about Mott’s cuvee? Seriously, if he can’t have a t-shirt, you have to make it up to him! Shout out to everyone who watched the blending of the Vayniac Cab last Friday!

That’s a very hard question to name a one favorite! All sorts of Italian food is great because they are so simplistic but show the essence of the ingredients. I really love a great Risotto but you can’t go wrong with a great traditional style pizza!

QOTD: When I was in Siena, I had an appetizer of pears, and percorino romano drizzled with honey. It was so delicious and although I ate many a pasta, and pizza, I will always remember that dish.

  • QOTD: pasta, any kind of pasta. Found this great Italian restaurant in Seattle called “Barolo” (I’m not making this up!). Anyone who digs Italian food and finds themselves in Seattle, really ought to check it out…

Actually Gar, so so show, let me explain why… I am completely clear on your liking the “classic” tasting Barolo’s (or any other wine, for that matter), but frankly we also need to re-visit the possibility of these guys doing different (read newer and better) things viticulturally. I mean, so people were upset when our friend Angelo Gaja brought oak barrels to PIemonte and even started ignoring the local DOC rules (most of his good stuff is Langhe as we all know)…
so sometimes (like the last wine of the show) a little bit of “new world” smells or tastes are not always (but I’ll agree that more often than not) a bad thing… just a thought.

    Your friend in Costa Rica,

    Roberto

  • Favorite Italian food? Definitely lasagna. I could see Garfield wringing Odie’s neck for a sliver of lasagna. Can’t say I’d blame him – the stuff is awesome.

QOTD: simply prepared pasta with shellfish. I like eating risotto off of other people’s plates even though I rarely order it myself.

Gary, how about starting each video by answering the previous day’s QOTD and maybe making a few comments about other ppl’s answers that stuck out. We want to know your favorite italian food too!

I had one of the best weekends in a long time. Having you back makes Monday a little easier to bear :).

QOTD: That’s like asking me which brother or sister I like the most, lol. I would have to say a Tortellini Tricolor pasta with sliced grilled chicken in a white sauce that’s like liquid sex from a small Italian restaurant in Hattiesburg, MS. And yes, I’ve eaten Italian all over the US, that just happens to be my favorite. It’s simple, not over done and just freakin’ good : ) And of course, pizza is the perfect food. How many foods can you leave on the counter all night, wake up the next day and eat cold and stale and it still be good, lol. Best comfort food when drunk as well ; )

Great show GV! And it’s good to have you back in the Thunder Chair!
