I was going to talk about some fantastic food I had in Rome, but in reality my first and last love (Italian food-wise) is pizza.

QOTD: Great question, very hard to answer!! I would have to say Vitello Tonnato (cold poached veal loin with tuna sauce). Good to have you back, loving the Barolo shows!

  • MattyO

so i STILL have not had wine in like 3 or 4 months! i’m dying! i feel like my palate is wasting away, it’s in need of something beautiful, something interesting, something complex! SOME WINE!

great show! i might be able to get my hands on some barolo…maybe…we’ll see…empty pockets.

thanks gary and mott and WLTV!

QOTD: Sausage and Meatballs made by an Italian Grandmother… actually anything by an Italian Grandmother!!!!

Ive been looking at the Barolo’s in my local ever since I first heard them mentioned on the Thunder Show.. but I am afraid that I am going to have to wait till I’m on a pay roll, because they were way too pricey for this CKC to bear!

Great show, loved the Seattle episodes.

    Great show. Welcome back!

QOTD:What else is there besides pasta. I mean really. Fresh Penne Pasta with olive oil, basil, and parmasan. With a nice vinegrette-ized salad.

Btw, Gary– Silver falls creamery goat cheese. Heaven on earth. Eat it.

Great show G. How about a Brunello show in the future?
    Well, I love Lasagna!

Got to say lately it’s been gnocchi with a brown butter sage sauce. When I was growing up my mother would make us kids whatever we wanted for dinner on our birthday. I always wanted gnocchi, which I’m sure just thrilled mom – it would take her the entire day to make enough for five kids.

Thanks for the Barolo show. Iรข??ve only had 1 before about 4 years ago. Really enjoyed it and had to Google it to find out what it was. Ended up finding out there was another region in Italy other than Tuscany.

I was very envious to see you tasting these wines… I’ve been looking for good ’04 Piedmontese wines (… and I’d appreciate you keeping it kinda quiet! There ain’t a lot of ’em!)

Favorite Italian food? I like pasta w/ mushrooms, especially porcini.

  • AQ

bolognese lasagna. real bolognese made the slow food way. freshly made pasta. bolognese simmering all day. my favorite i’ve found in the US is at merlo on lincoln ave in chicago. i could eat it everyday.

I love the Italian wines, thanks for shedding light on the Barolos. Glad to have you back in familiar surroundings.

QOTD: pizza, and if you really want to know. Coccia House pizza… look it up, they ship anywhere in the lower 48. Best pizza around.

Thanks for the show, haven’t experimented with Barolo much as the price point is a little high.
QOTD: Spent 5 months in Sicily and fell in love with all the pasta dishes but have to say the breads were my favorite. I was there in 1986 and oh how I wish I had drank wine back then. Makes me sick to think of all the great wine I could have drank up in the mid 80s when I spent so much time in Spain, Italy and Sicily.

  • Susan

Gary- Just to clarify. All of these Barolos are FREE, right?????? Wink ๐Ÿ™‚ Wink ๐Ÿ™‚

Qotd: Pizza? Chicken Fettucini Alfredo? Those are the true answers but in someways they make me sad when I write them down. I feel like I’ve tried to expand my wine palate constantly but I still have an Olive Garden Food Palate (OGFP for the CKC’s) and I just don’t care. MUST BREAK FROM CONFORMITY!!!

  • Great episode as always! Sounded like you had some press peeps in the background with the snappity snap of the camera.

QOTD: Olives Olives Olives. Is that really an “Italian food”? But man oh man do I love me some good olives, red, black, green, purple…all kinds; fried, grilled, in sauces, pan fried, plain, in oil…

Interestingly enough though my favorite olive oil in the world is Castillo De Canena from Spain = amazing stuff.

    Hi Gary,

Love the Barolo…..I haven’t had one in many years. Today’s prices are out of my league. I had a ’66 Barolo Riserva Spceiale from Luigi Calissano that cost, get this…… $5.75. I held it for 12 years till ’78, there was sediment and I had to decant it. I really enjoyed this one……deep ruby color, heavy fruitty nose, rich robust chewy flavor and a clean aftertaste. Those were my notes in an old wine book I have.

QOTD: Lasagna has to be my favorite.

QOTD: Anything placed in front of me.
Barstool absolutely has the right idea, though.

Interesting show. I’m thinking an Italian theme for May’s TTT tasting group…

And cut it out with the no T-shirt for Mott business already! Remember, resistance is futile.

  • T. Holland

GV, loved the Bledsoe story. As a Pats fan, it is impossible not to have a ton of respect for Bledsoe. The way that he handled himself in 2001 (when Brady took over) was just an amazing show of class. Not sure if you ever saw the full page ad that he took out in the Boston Globe after he was traded to Buffalo to thank the New England fans- what a class act.

QOTD: Tough to say my #1, but I love Straccetella (sp?) & pistachio gelato. Also had an amazing Seafood Risoto in Monteroso. Loves a good Caprese salad on a summer day. There are just too many to chose.
