Never had a CB to my knowledge but will pick up the Francois Chidaine to try it out – I liked your description of that particular wine.

  • I loved the “leave comment or else” line 🙂 Chenin is one of my frequent white purchases, I’ve had 10 over the last year and a half, 5 French (all Vouvray, including one sweetie) and 5 from South Africa. The best of the bunch was the “Rijk’s Private Cellar” 2005 Barrel fermented Chenin Blanc, closely followed by Lieu-dit “Les Fosses d’Hareng” 2004 Vouvray.

QOTD – Last month had Château Gaudrelle 2005 Vouvray Réserve Spéciale Moelleux (a bit light for a dessert wine) and Clos de Nouys 2006 Vouvray Demi-sec. Both good, but not great.

….and Lagavulin IS a killer whiskey.

I’ve had a few but the last one was at a big party which featured Delicato Merlot…I think it was Fairvalley from So. Africa, and pretty flabby, not memorable. I have had at least one other SA CB that was quite nice…

  • Jason

Never had a chenin blanc before but definately want to try one after this show. Great show GARY!

  • QOTD: My last Chenin blanc was a L’Ecole Chenin Blanc, I really liked that wine and was really surprised at the complexity and quality. Really liked it and made me want to try more! I like the sound of the S. African one- my pal says “I like grass, herbs, grapefruit and acidity!”

Great Show!!! Chenin makes a great summer sipper. I’ve had KWV, Jean Daneel, and several others from South Africa. Also Huet from France and some great Coteaux du Layon lurking in my cellar.
    Can I watch more now…?!

    never had a Chenin Blanc.
But yesterday I had a nice experience. A Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2006 (Poderi del Paradiso)

First sip was not so nice, tasted almost rotten sour. Later on the evening I had a sip with my dinner. (pasta with broccoli, mushrooms, tomato’s and fresh anchovies). Than to my surprise the wine blended perfect in. The almost rotten taste disappeared completely.

Gary, hope you can give us more info about strong taste transformations with food?

Great show today Gary…. Cool idea with the comment requirement, but what happens if i miss a show? will i be able to go back and add a comment so that i can watch the newest one?

QOTD: The last chenin blanc i had was at my wine club meeting a few months ago. I can’t remember off the top of my head where it was from, but it was over-chilled and hard to taste and we werent impressed. I have had some great chenin blancs though – they can be really tasty!

Great show…you mentioned a you might be tricked in a blind taste test. That would be a great idea for a show. Let your producer pick some wines and see what you can tell us about them without seeing the bottle.
