The last Chenin Blanc I had was from San Martino Winery in Rockwall, Texas. It was quite good.

Can’t remember the vineyard, but it was good. I’m a huge fan of Chenin.

QOTD: Amberlay Estate Chenin Blanc from Margret River. Not a bad wine and all the better because it was drunk sitting on a friends junk in Hong Kong harbour.

    Cheers

  • QOTD: Elizabeth Spencer ’06 Chenin Blanc (Mendocino).

Awesome wine. Honeysuckle and apricot aromas, and tangerines on the mid-palate. Nice finish – not too much heat.

QOTD – I tried a Mulderbosch Steen from South Africa (by the glass) a few weeks ago. I learned that Chenin is frequently is called Steen in South Africa. As you said it was very Sauvigon Blanc like. Good enough for a second glass.

Oh boy GV, I haven’t had Chenin blanc in a while. I’ve been trying Cotes du Rhone blancs, Vinho Verde, lots of random reds, but I haven’t revisited Chenin blanc in a long time.

QOTD: I’m partial to Vouvray, so it was the 2005 Domaine Bourillon d’Orleans La Bardonnerie demi-sec.

    Haven’t had Chenin Blanc recently.

Tonight I am drinking a wine that is “100% Symphony grapes”. Never heard of this either … but I liked it a lot.

what a coincidence! i was just in the Loire last week on a spontaneous trip from germany. we visited “Domain de la Noblaie” (Chinon) and had a wonderful time. We brought home 06′ blanc and also their “La Part des Anges” (chinon blanc as well)…we also tried their “pierre de teuf”, a cab franc that was made in a 600 year old limestone Well!!! Very great experience.

the Loire is a much wilder river than its refined reputation leads on. ‘la noblaie’ was wonderful!!!

QOTD: Don’t think I have ever had a Chenin. I’ll definitely put it on the list.

Also, is it just me or did the table change? Generally i thought it looked a deep mauve cherry colour, and now it looked almost a pale grey…

I’ve never tried one. I’ve never really gotten into whites, but it’s on the as list as soon as I can afford a few more bottles a week.

I recently tried my first chenin blanc. I doint remember the vinyard but it was called Chardnoway. When I first popped it open it reminded me of a unoaked chardonay the only problem was I didn’t finnish the bottle. I opened it again a couple days later and it was aweful all I could taste was sour alcohol. My first harsh lesson in sometimes wines wont keep after you open them.
