Always been a big fan of Vouvray, because of its versatility. Last CB I had was from South Africa, Teddy Hall.

Gary, ordered 2 books yesterday and the QOTD Ken Forrester and I enjoyed it.

  • QOTD: I think the last one I had was actually a chenin-blanc/chardonnay blend from Pine Ridge that was pretty good, but I’ve tried 3 or 4 south africa chenin blancs recently and liked them all.

Last Chenin blanc we had was the L’ecole 41. It was really quite good on the first day the bottle was opened and then got a weird aftertaste on day 2 and 3. It would have been a very good wine to have with more people to finish it right away. I did vacu-vin and refigerated it too. Oh well, great episode and we hope you sell a million copies of your book!

  • QOTD – it was the ’05 Chidaine Vouvray Clos Baudoin. Chidaine makes incredible Chenins. It didn’t surprise me one bit that Gary liked the Touraine… but if you REALLY want to get a sense of what the guy can do, try his single-vineyard Montlouis and Vouvray wines.

I’m not sure what the last one I’ve had was, but I have had the Dry Creek version. I do like vouvray, and I really should drink some soon. Thanks for the reminder!

QOTD: Easy… Bonny Doone Pacific Rim NV. With the screw top this is a no brainer to tuck into a corner, upright, till that fatefull night when no one wants to cook and you end up ordering takeout Thai food instead.

  • QOTD: I can’t say I’ve had a Chenin Blanc recently — and I think you’re all talk when you say I don’t get to watch tomorrow!

Gary, what happened to the “Whether they like it or not” at the end of your sign off? Did we decide they like it?

  • same one you had, 06 dry creek

  • Orion

Never had a chenin blanc, but I haven’t really explored whites too much. I’ve never been blown away by a white, but maybe I just haven’t had one that matches my palate yet…

  • QOTD: I don’t want to talk about it. I would feel bad for saying who it was and how many years ago, and then saying “probably the reason I haven’t had one since.”

Haven’t tried Chenin Blanc (I’m just getting into this whole wine shenanigan) but it’s on my (growing) list of things to try.
