QOTD. Tasted a Savennieres (Chateau d’Epire Cuvee Speciale) against a South African Chenin Blanc (Mulderbosch). Both very interesting in completely different ways. The Savennieres was like fig/quince jam and the Mulderbosch was like key lime pie in a glass.

QOTD: I actually dont even remember the last chenin blanc I had. It has been close to a year since Ive last had one but now that summer is rolling around and Texas sucks with the heat, it’ll probably be a wine a fall back into soon enough, especially for the price point.

Had a Vouvray the other night at Wild Ginger with my Thai food and it rocked.

QOTD: I think I had a South African about six months back but can’t really remember. Had a Loire about a couple of years back. Super funky (probably oxidized), but still kind of attractive. It’s time to roll Chenin again.

QOTD: Last Chenin Blanc I had was a 2005 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume (375ml), and it was delish-i-lish! I gave it a 96 on CellarTracker and said “This late harvest Chenin Blanc is unassailable pleasure. The nose is delirious honeydew melons, with apricot syrup. Same on the palate, with melons, apricots, orange blossom, and a touch of lemon-lime with honey. Poised balance between intense sweetness and crisp acidity, and a lengthy finish. This went equally well with desserts, and by itself. Want a capable alternative to a Sauternes? This will do.”

You’re right…i really don’t drink enough chenin blanc. I think it is because I always get tricked into buying the really mediocre Vouvrays.

QOTD: I actually had the Dry Creek not too long ago. Summer here in AZ is BRUTAL so I am going to be drinking some chilled whites. I know you are a fan of room temperature, but that doesn’t always cut it when its 114 degrees outside!
