QOTD Р2005 Maison Alex Gambal Corton-Charlemagne (France, Burgundy, C̫te de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru)

I have never been a big fan of whites… until I discovered big whites.

Love the episode, I may seek out the Fontaine.

I absolutely love white Burgundy. I drink mostly premier cru level, but occasionally splurge with a grand cru. The producers I currently enjoy are Sauzet, Jadot, Leflaive, Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet, and Girardin.

QOTD: My next purchase will probably be a Sauzet.

Funny what you said today gary about eating lobster and chassagne-montrachet. I hadn’t eaten lobster in over a year and I finally had some this week with a bottle of Chassagne-Montrachet.

QOTD: I think I might have to try the Fontaine Gagnard.

I had another thought just after I signed off a few minutes ago. My favorite inexpensive white Burgundy is Rully. If you buy those in the leaner style, they will age long enough to develope amazing complexity….after 8-10 years almost indistinguishable from premier cru Chassagne and Puligny, but less than half the price.

    I love white burg
If I could marry an object, it would be a bottle of white burg of cote de beaune!
Serious crush on Meursault, Puligny, Chassagne even some white Beaune 1er Cru

Last one I had was a 2002 Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru chaumées from Hubert Bouzereau

  • VERY NICE episode!! I was almost getting ready to buy myself a bottle of Louis Jadot Puligny Montrachet, but now I think that I’m going to hold off on it. Is Louis Jadot a Negociant or a Wine Grower?

Have never had one, and the first will probably be when I’ve got a nice salary somewhere and can afford to get something really solid. I look forward to it though!

Great show! I am hosting a comparative wine tasting the 23rd and Chardonnay is one of the compared varietals from the regions of France vs. Calif. so this episode was right of track with what I have going on. I often find this same conducive enjoyment. Thanks

Nice show! Haven’t had that many white burgs not really into white wine but am trying to get to know my PAL a little better. Opened a CA Chardonnay and drank it at room temp…really awesome, tasted completely different and I was really able to taste the different elements of the grape without it being so chilled, as I have had it in the past.

Will seek out some in the future.

    You Rock!

A classy show Gareth, a classy show and the best in a while. You have to be serious from time to time and that was one of the first shows you’ve done where I would seriously consider seeking out the wines.

QOTD Corton Charl. 2005 by Michel Voarick. This is the greatest white wine I have ever had and I’ve had a few to be sure. I give it 97. I’m not kidding.
The complexity is stunning. I bought a case of it. 45 euro a go.

Great show. Montrachet is SO expensive but SO good.

QOTD: I have a $20 and under wine party/tasting to attend next week. Will probably be purchasing a pouilly-fuisse to keep it under budget. I’d say which one but can’t for the life of me remember the producer.

Like a lot of other posters, I drink Macon-Villages and love that juicy, stainless steel fermented style at $10 a bottle (or even $15–grr–now that the dollar is so low against the euro). But my experience with village wines in the upscale Cote de Beaune and Cote d’Or regions–even ones rated highly by Burghound, WS et al.–was poor. I failed to note that the high ratings were accompanied by “for a village wine.” Then I took a chance on six bottles of ’99 Jean-Noel Gagnard (cousin of Fontaine) Chassagne Montrachet “Maltroi” vineyard 1er offered by a Seattle-based web wine seller for 35 bones. It was a revelation to the four of us at dinner that night, like “So THIS is what people mean when they say white burgundy is great!” 60-70 dollars? I once paid that much for a champagne and was disappointed. But as you made clear, a 92-94 rated 1er cru white burgundy is really, really worth it.

I’m sipping an ’05 Montrevost Macon-village wine as I type this, and I love it. The rest of the Gagnard ’99 will accompany my hunter pal’s turkey(s) feast this Thanksgiving. After that, nuthin. But I’m glad I got to taste the real thing at least once.

I agree with others who rate this particular show high. And it’s not just that you chose a high-end wine to evaluate, but that you made it clear that this was just one more day in the vineyard. And while I would agree with an earlier poster that adjusting previous ratings based on those which follow would be a bad, wishy-washy procedure in general, your doing so in this episode was part of the spontaneous quality that TV is best at. You rock!

  • if you are going to have a song running on repeat throughout the entire show you need to tell us what it is, otherwise it will be stuck in my head forever and I’ll have no way to find out what it is!! 🙂

    have a great weekend.
