  • I’ve noticed that you’ve been leaving out your “Ooooh this,” from your opening. Think about bringing it back. All I’m asking is that you think about it.

    QOTD #1: Nope
QOTD #2: Can’t think of any Italian whites that I’ve had so I can just grab any bottle.

  • Good show. I’m ok with the serious shows but this one was plenty of fun as well.

QOTD: I have heard of Greco Di Tufo but have never tried it. It is one that I would like to try along with so many others. I will drink an Italian white this weekend. I honestly don’t think I have had an Italian white so maybe I’ll try more than one.

Rubbery, smell the top of the bottle. what does the tin top smell like Gary? The tin can leave a smell on the top of the bottle. I always wipe off the top of the bottle before pouring the first glass. Test for everybody is to take the tin off. Smell the top of the bottle. You will smell the tin. Wipe off the bottle and then smell again. The tin smell will be gone. Maybe the tin smells like rubber?

QOTD: I recently bought a Vinho Verde to try, so I might open that up this weekend. I’m excited about the Greco Di Tufo after watching today’s showand hope my new neighborhood Mega-Wine mart has some good offerings. I generally prefer Italian Red varietals though and think many are done well in the CA Foothills, but agree wholeheartedly that its good to keep your mind and palate open and try new stuff!

Thanks for another great show, Viva Italia!

ok, I had to go double check my cooler (outdoor fridge in lieu of something more formal for chilling my whites and brews). I actually had a bottle of Trebbiano D’Abruzzo stashed away so I’ll open that as soon as it warms up.

How about a show on some Portuguese wines though? (savin’ my Vinho Verde for later).

Ok, so I’m watching the dang show and I’m…
drinking the dang wine and I …
bought the dang book and I’m …
annoying my friends and family with all this dang wine talk AND I’M …
drinking stuff that taste like danged feet, or rocks, or apple peels off a garbage truck, and any other number of wacko assaults on my sanity …

    Hmm, fun stuff.

    Thanks Gary.

QOTD: I never tried a Greco Di Tufo and can’t say burnt tire really works with my palate. I might try the Vesevo if I came across it.

I had a bottle of Muller Thurgau from the Alto Adige region of Italy that rocked with fish.

    Thanks for the show Gary.

QOTD… I will decide on Saturday when I go out for dinner and browse the wine list. I will get back to you on Monday’s show.

QOTD: I’ve never had a Greco di Tufo, but I am a sucker for trying something new, so I am going to have to pick one up. The only problem for me is a lack of choice (the provincial liquor board carries one Greco di Tufo, although it is supposedly a good producer according to Hugh Johnson) and price (29 Canadian bones).

I might have to hit up some private wine shops and see what they’re carrying…

As for this weekend…hopefully I’ll find a GDT, or a Gavi (another Italian white that I’ve wanted to try).

I enjoy greco ti tufo. I have visited di San Gregorio outside of Naples. How about a show on Gruner Veltliner wines from Austria?

Another great off the mainstream show. You do what so many of us entrenched in the business wish to do. Thanks

QOTD1: Ofcourse, actually used to sell a bunch of the Vesevo.

QOTD2: 100% Picolit??-I’ve only had Schiopetto blends with a small percentage in it, not enough to clearly identify the varietal.

Wow what an awesome shoe and for being serious it was fun. I have never had a Greco di Tufo, but that lat wine you tasted makes me want to go out and try one. The pricepoint is goo too. Thanks Gary for the show and the concern. We are all learning some new things that will help us keep our shirts unbottened!

I’ve had Greco Di Tufo (I remember because I liked the name) but I can’t recall where. It may have been at a wine class actually.

    Italian Wine I haven’t tried – Brunello

I like the homework assignment – my kind of work!

Never heard of Greco Di Tufo. Not a big fan of burnt rubber. Being a former home brewer and BJCP beer judge, I believe that aroma comes from Phenolics which are usually produced by an infected ferment. Those are likely poorly made wines. 2 that smell of rubber and 1 with no flavor, I think i will PAZZZZZZ on Greco Di Tufo. Too many good things to taste out there. BTW, I just ordered 2 copies of your book, 1 for me and 1 for a gift. Can’t wait to read it.

A new lurker and a Russian immigrant. In my opinion it is the best show you have done so far. It is all: funny, serious, angry and humble. Great balance… Congrats on the book!!! I am ashamed to admit I have bever heard of this varietal.

I’ve never had a Greco di Tufo, and I cannot try a wine this weekend as I’m racing this weekend. No alcohol for me when I’m competing. However, maybe Monday night I can seek out a new Italian white that I’ve not had before.
