  • QOTD: I am opening a 1999 Chateau Pavie with my twin brother tonight for our birthday, I’ve never had a Pavie yet…but I have a good feeling it will be a good one to recommend. I’ll know in a few hours. Cpiess recommended 2005 Don Melchor, which is one of my favorites, don’t do that until I buy a few bottles. I want to make sure I get some before the Vayner effect buys it all up!

Gary – Does Pomum Cellars have any idea you plugged them on Friday? I’ve been exchanging emails with them about placing an order and they wrote back this morning accepting my order but added that “For some mysterious reason we have a huge backlog of orders right now” We all know it’s not such a mystery…..it’s Gary!

    Thanks for the tip.

QOTD: not sure on the specifics, but you should be drinking more Chateneuf-de-pape.

Also, I see the Jets picked up Dustin Keller, not sure how he’ll do in the pros, but as a tight-end he was one of Purdue’s toughest and talented receivers.

I love these responses. My first recommendation for you and the ever curious Vayner-nation is Radiolab. Its a brilliantly produced radioshow (dl via iTunes or wnyc.org) exploring the mind, the world we live in, and the way the two interact. Sleep, memory, music or even the nature of time are played with from different angles by psychologists and chemists and painters to help give perspective on the world we live in and how we perceive it. Plus its beautiful, with lush auditory illustrations.
For some wine, I’m giving a big shout out to the Cremant de Bourgogne from Trader J’s – a delicious brunch sparkler for under $10 (add a little fresh mango juice – Ceres is awesome – for an easy yummy mimosa), and to the Saint M Riesling, which was utterly delicious with lots of peach and ripe fruit. Yum.

I also wanted to recommend trying more Nebbiolos from Langhe. I’ve had a few recently and been moved by the complex minerality in them – strong values for Burgundy lovers looking forward to eating at beautiful Italian trattorias this summer.

?OD While not in my immediate self interest, I recommend more time with your family and less time on the Thunder Show, (ie checking emails at 1:00am) I’d hate to see you burn out early.

Love the show as always. Give Vina Robles Singature a try or call them and get a hold of either their Zin or “End Post”

Dude, try the Galil Mountain Viognier with some matzah — or bread or whatever ‘cuz it’s an awesome wine.
    Or the Gamla Sauvignon Blanc.

Although I had some great Yatir and Carmel Single Vineyard too this Passover. Check out the great Israeli kosher and non-kosher wines for year round!

We recommend “Trappist Monks” monistary made jams and jellies.

They are sooooooooo good; my special prize for you is going to be; a sampling for the Vanerchuks to try.

These jams are so packed with flavor; you will never see blackberries in the same light……they will be elivated to star status.

My shoutout gets selected and somehow “Travis” becomes “Travi”? It’s my high school gym teacher (who insisted on dropping the last letter of everyone’s name) all over again.

Great show and good interview on Internet Superstars – would highly recommend, check it out at Revision3.org.

  • Roberto

    Gary,

    My sincere recommendation for you:

a 5 day stint in Costa Rica with Lizzy, we’ll raid the cellar and have a blast up in a rainforest lodge, talking to wild monkeys. Also, bring down like 200 or 300 books for a signing. How does July 29th sound? we have a wine show that day.

Writing this sunday 6.50 pm… Jets draft, so so, but you did do some serious damage on camera all weekend… it’s like you paid Boomer Berman or something…

I recommend The Rhone de Robles 05′ by Robert Hall. A cali. Rhone styled wine. I wish I had a bottle left. My wine notes are scattered. I remember a nice balance with a new world meets old world style. A very nice wine you should try.

Thanks so much for the birthday shout-out – you are a doll!!

QOTD: I recommend you not change a blessed thing!! But if you were looking specifically for a wine rec, try the Mestizaje sometime. It’s very different – lots of interest, lots of charisma. I think you might like it.

    Cheers! Laura

How about that, I just sent you an email with my recommendation earlier today. Check out Cantina del Pino, I really liked their 2006 Dolcetto d’Alba and 2005 Barbera d’Alba at a tasting this week.

I had a Kosher wine over Passover, a Spanish wine from Elvi Wines, it was the 770 priorat it’s a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Caberney, and Merlot. At 15.5% alc it was a real heavy and interesting wine.
