Qotd:Can’t pick 1 but the Lucien Albrecht Cuvee romanus is a helluva QPR. I’d pay double the price for it

  • QOTD: I’ve had plenty and disliked almost all. But I’m not counting it out yet. I want to try an Oregon one.

  • You know, I use to live on a winery. I’ve sniffy-sniffed a good amount of wines (Still too young, can’t admit to drinking any here.) Never have tried a pino gris or grigio. I like to fruitier ones, so maybe Ill try the 2004 Gris.

  • Nice head to head…love the cross-country battle.

Embarrassingly, I’ve never had one – Although I made some mushroom risotto with some cheap pinot grigio years ago – but never actually tasted it. Oops.

Love the head to head wine-tastings…QOTD: I don’t know if I ever had a Pinot-Gris…will have to give it a try…not sure if I will like it but love the description you give Gary ” Forest-floor action “…”Metal Aluminium Bat”…Can’t wait! Pinot Grigio I like when it’s very hot out…a break from red wine during summer.

QOTD: I don’t think I have tried a Pinot Gris. I do like Pinot Grigio. Last had one from Grape Creek (Texas). Very good.

  • A P-G Head-to-head! Love the wine, love the format!

QOTD – Lieu-dit Stierkopf 2004 Pinot Gris, Alsace – Grapefruit on the nose, a hint of lemon. Rich mouthfeel with a citrusy tang, slight bitterness, like a sweet Grapefuit. Excellent, I gave it 90pts but Sarah found it too bitter.

QOTD: I thought of a few I liked, MacMurray Ranch Russian River Valley, Chehalem (OR), and from Alsace, ALBERT MANN, LUCIEN ALBRECHT.

I haven’t had many bottles of Pinot Gris. I suppose my “favorite” is the only one I remember, and that’s the 2006 Alma Rosa Pinot Gris. I remember it being crisp, but it didn’t blow me away.

  • QOTD: St. Innocent Pinot Gris.

For those who don’t know St. Innocent wines, they need to in a big way. Great Chardonnay as well as Pinot (Gris,Blanc and Noir) all kept at a reasonable prices despite his success.

QOTD.. I’m sure I’ve had Pinot Gris before, but definitely not from the Alsace. It was cool to learn that they make it there.

    thx gv!

QOTD: I always enjoy the Zind-Humbrecht(sp?) Pinot Gris and I generally think that Alsace PG kills I-talian PG most days of the week.

  • Ethan

    QOTD: Never had one

  • Never had a pinot gris.
Actually, I haven’t had any white wine in ages!
I’ll have to try some more soon.
It’s Californian Cabernet Sauvignon tonight though! ; )
First American wine in ages, too.
You guys better be makin’ good juice! ; )

Oh yeah and I still can’t leave comments without bothering you about this after seeing ep. 292:
Quit the foie gras, Gary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanna hear you say it!!!!!
    (That’s all. It’s my moral duty ; )

    Good day.

Gary, is that the same shirt you wore yesterday?!
We had several Pinot Grigios from Italy last summer, but I tend to prefer Alsatian Gewertz.

  • Can we please have a Jersey “Wet Garbage” T-Shirt now? HILARIOUS! I’ve never had pinot gris, btw…I’m assuming ti tastes the same.

    Great show, Gary.

QOTD: I have to go with Zind-Humbrecht Turkheim, but i’m not even going to get into the SGN’s…it wouldn’t be fair. Also, check out Alois Lageder’s single vineyard grigio “Benefizium” from the Alto Adige in Italy. And for new world, I really like Elk Cove from Oregon. Peace.

Never had a Pinot Gris, but have been looking to try one for the last few months. Might have to try the ’04 Binner now, after your tasting.
