  • Gary continues the trend of introducing me to new varieties…excellent. This show was ok, but we all know everyone is waiting for Monday. Reveal the wines already. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Screaming Eagle in there that got rated 71 points?

    What say ye?

I’m out. Happy early Friday. Send my damn wristbands.

    Top 10!

QOTD: Never have I ever had a Lagrein…not very much in to the rustic style “poop-city, USA” wines. I will seek out the Kellerei Gres though.

    Good show! Expanding my pal!

Okay show, I like the different varieties he is bringing out, unfortunately they don’t seem like my type of wine.

QOTD: Not that I recall, but I don’t think I will bbe trying any with those notes.

Mott didn’t even want to come out to give us another tease for Monday. They’re all laying low. I guess I can’t blame them.

  • I am big fan of obscure Italian varietals, and this is one I haven’t heard of! Sweet, I’m excited to give it a shot. I’ll definitely have to check out the Kellerei Gries Lagrein Grieser Riserva. Thanks for the introduction! BTW, My local wine shop (which does have a few thousand bottles) has two Lagrein’s. Maybe I’ll start there.

You guys used to have a 100% Raboso that totally ruled. I see there’s no Raboso in stock anymore. 🙁 Also, you need to do an episode on Pignolo! Again, get some in stock! The Cormos Pignolo you had for $13 (about 1/3rd the price of the second cheapest one I’ve seen) last year was amazing for the price… seems no one in the US has it anymore.

Lurker coming out. It’s a great show. I got into wine not too long ago, and I’m pumped to be here. I can’t wait to extend my pal and try some new stuff.

I have some serious questions and a few suggestions for the show, but I’m not bringing them out until we get a payoff on our patience from the Cab show the other day. It better be good or I’m heading back into the basement!

QOTD: No, but yes I will seek some out. I’m also going to look for some Gavi as well, because those looked reDONKulous.

  • Paryb

You want lurkers?? You’ve got one! I’m one of those dirty wine.wooters though.

Great Show Gary, I’ve never had a lagrein, but I’ll have to go talk to my buddy at the store, see if he can get me one.

  • Tyler Smith

I’ve been lurking for a while now, and I’ll come out on this one, although It’s not very interesting

QOTD: I’ve never had one, nor any other wine, and won’t be legally eligible to try one for another 5 years 🙂

    Spoke way too soon!

  • I haven’t had a Lagrein (nor have I heard of it before this episode), but I DID finally try a viognier and petit verdot while in South Africa on holiday – and I REALLY LIKED them (which means a lot since I’m more of a white wine drinker). THANKS GARY!!!

Wouldnâ??t it be great if there was a Screaming Eagle in there that got rated 71 points?

FWIW I thought this is an odd situation, but whatever…Hey even a Screaming Eagle can get corked. I had a buddy who had a bottle of Verite La Muse, that was cooked…what a horrible shame.

Qotd: Nope, never had or heard of it. But when you suggested it to expand out of Barolo and Brunello, you really had my attention. Also I work at a retail wine shop and we do not have a Lagrein. I do not have much pull in the store- but I will push hard to carry one. Thanks for doing all these shows for when you are on the road GV- appreciloved for sure!

LURKERS: Please, he gives us an awesome FREE wine education/entertainment program-let’s leave a record number of comments and show our appreciation!

    Gary, you’re the man.

Never even heard of this varietal, and LOVING just hearing about “out of the way” varietals…

    Rocking a Large T-shirt? Wow, makes me feel like a fat-ass…. 😉

    And yes, I am a former LURKER….
