    Gary, you’re the man.

Never even heard of this varietal, and LOVING just hearing about “out of the way” varietals…

    Rocking a Large T-shirt? Wow, makes me feel like a fat-ass…. πŸ˜‰

    And yes, I am a former LURKER….

  • April

I have never hear of or had Lagrein. I am pretty new to wine and have not tried many red wines not sure this is one i should start with but i love hearing your opinion. I was planning on going to a local wine shop this weekend anyway so i will be sure to ask to see if they even carry it.

  • I’ve been drinking wine seriously for over 30 years so I’m semi-ashamed to say I’ve heard of lagrein.

My favorite Lagrein so far is the J. Hofstatter.
    Great show.

  • QOTD: Heard La Grange by ZZ Top but not of Lagrein.

  • Damn…… another grape varietal I have never heard of! The lagrein’s sound great. I like big, ballsy wines with some backbone that can stand toe to toe with a slab of brontosaurus ribs and not shrink up like George Kostanza in a cold swimming pool….. (yes, a little Seinfeld joke there….)

I have never seen a lagrein here in the Spokane area, but I promise on my stash of Bella and Robert Biale zinfandels, Fielding Hills cabs and syrahs, and Doyenne syrahs (gotta love that Washington juice) that I will seek a few out and drink them with tin foil wrapped around my dome to attract all of the thunder I can.

That said, another great show Gary from a total lurker.

Now, what the hell is up with the under $10 cab results??????????

    Cheers,
    Tim

  • That was cold waiting for Mott to spit before you declared that it was a man’s wine and that was why he didn’t like it! BTW, Jack Youngblood was my fav! You talk about real men! I’m just glad you didn’t go totally JY on the Kellerei because you would have given it an 85. Maybe it’s more of a Reggie White? See: http://www.bestbythenumbers.com/

Never heard of let alone drank a Lagrein. However, we area planning a walking trip to the Dolomites in early September and we will be in the Alto Adige region. We will try one (or more) here and there. By the way, first post…I’m a lurker.

QOTD — nope, heard of the region, but not the grape

Don’t worry about not having hit all the obscure but good varietals when we’re still waiting for Madeira and sherry!

Long time lurker, please forgive me.
Never tried, heard of or seen a lagrein before. Wine merchants down here in New Zealand can be a bit conservative and I have trouble finding some of the more obscure varieties or regions.

  • Lurker – Never tried but picked up a Gavi today! I’m on the one day delay cause I’m living in Austria. Keep up the great work Gary!

Haven’t had a chance to try a Lagrein yet but I will work on it…I also haven’t had a chance to try any of your under $10 dollar cab selections either. I wonder why…oh wait, maybe it is because we haven’t seen what they were yet. Just kidding with you guys…I am sure if I have waited this long I can wait a little longer. Take care…keep up the great shows…I learn something every time.

  • Are you having server issues? It took 45 minutes to watch this video. This is twice in the last week that I had this issue and my broadband is running fine for everything else. I have had Lagrein including the Sudirol that neither I nor my wife could stand so I never bought another. These are cheap enough to rush out to get one or two especially after the bad experience we had. Ruined an excellent Lasagna meal and had to open a go to Barolo instead. None of my local stores in VA Beach carry Lagrein. Please fix the server.

I may have had a Lagrein — My grandmother lives in Tyrol, 5 minutes from the italian border. When we visit her we go across to Brennero or Bolzano to buy wine. Every night my grandmother (who is well into her nineties) has a glass of Sudtyroler wine, and when we vist we all have a glass with her. I had no idea it was even possible to get wine from the Sud Tyrol in the states. Thanks for this episode.

QOTD Lagrein, never heard of it, but it’s now on my short list.
For what it’s worth…I’m not crazy about the new shelves in the store, the isles seem cave-like and they make the store darker, also that top shelf is pretty high. I guess it’s the trade-off for added display space.
Thanks for a great show and continued success.
