QOTD Lagrein, never heard of it, but it’s now on my short list.
For what it’s worth…I’m not crazy about the new shelves in the store, the isles seem cave-like and they make the store darker, also that top shelf is pretty high. I guess it’s the trade-off for added display space.
Thanks for a great show and continued success.

lurker here……..I’ve made maybe three comments in two years of watching the show, so I think that qualifies me as a lurker. Need a show for tomorrow so I’ll oblige you with this comment Gary – no, I’ve never had a lagreine (spelling?)

  • Liquor stores here are run by the province, and I checked their site, they don’t carry any Lagrein. It’s a shame, but when I travel in a few weeks, I might have a look elsewhere for them!

    Gary and Mot,

Great show. I normally buy wines at a small store here in the heart of Brazil (Minas Gerais State, if you care to know…) which is specialized in Italian wines. The owner never told me about this seemingly exceptional wine from Italy. I will ask him about that.

I am normally what you call a lurker, but I enjoy your show very much. I don´t like to comment where there is almost no interaction.

    Regards

i’ve never had one, but will try to find sometime when I’m visiting a “big city liquor store.” In my one stop light town, Beringer/Woodbridge/Yellow Tail are the most common found on the shelf.

I haven’t commented in months, so I guess I’ve re-established Lurker status. After today, let the Lurker Status Begone!

Nice show….i consider myself a serious wine drinker and i’ve never had a lagrein…..gotta try one….

    QOTD: nope.

K&L carries 8 Lagreins, but only 3 in stock in Hollywood.
    Wine House carries 6 Lagreins.
    Wally’s has just 1 Lagrein and it’s a Rose…

I would send you a Sonoma State tee if I had one…

QOTD: No I have never had a Lagrein before, although I have had some white wines from Alto Adige. Great show with some great wines but I will probably have some trouble finding this varietal if it is as unknown as you say. Thanks.

  • Neil

Never – if I see one on the local shelves I’d give it a try.

    C’mon lurkers Gary needs you!

Excellent show! QOTD: No, I’ve never had a Lagrein nor had I ever heard of one before today–you are doing your job so well, GV! I’m willing to bet good money that as you’ve predicted, none of the wine shops in my neighborhood will have a Lagrein in stock.

Just got my SIGNED copy of the book; thank you for that. Sped-read the intro and man, you are singing my song! I hereby pronounce myself a Vayniac!

  • Jimbo

First time caller, long time lurker.

I havenâ??t had a Lagrein. I just started getting into wine about a year ago though, so there is still so much I havenâ??t tried. Iâ??ll add it to my list.

Iâ??m on the edge of my seat to find out what wine #4 is on Monday!

  • Franky

lagrein used to be crap. but the wines from südtirol – the northern part of italy – are worth a try now. i bought several wines at a wineshop in meran. you have to try whites from elena walch and from cantina terlan.

  • Never even heard of Lagrein.
Although I am quite new to the wine thing,
tasting my first Barolo tonight, can’t wait!
    It’s an Enrico Serafino 2003.
Maybe you can do it on the show so I can compare tasting notes?!?
I’ve actually never had a wine that I’ve seen you review.
I suppose it’s just that the markets are different in Ireland and the USA or something.

Great show – love those Italian varietals. Ever since I lived in Trento, Lagrein has been a favorite. I’m in with Kellerei Gries!

QOTD: Never heard of Lagrein before. Unfortunately I’m sure my local wine store doesn’t carry any so I’ll have to put it on the wish list for later purchase. Thanks for expanding my wine world.

I tasted a Lagrein for the first time last week at Whitcraft in Santa Barbara. I had never heard of it until then. The grapes came from the French Camp Vineyard in San Luis Obispo. It was a little wild for me, with some strong brown sugar aspects. I’ll have to try and seek out a bottle from Italy some time.

QOTD #1- NO…………………………………QOTD #2- NO. And at 20-30 bones, I don’t see that changing in the near future. On the other hand, I have no problem watching you enjoy wines that are a “little” above my price point.

  • John Farrin

QOTD: Have a couple of 2005 Ignaz Niedrist Lagrein “Berger Gei” in the cellar but as of now have not had a Lagrein.
