Qotd: Just checked the website and wine library doesn’t carry them. But I’d recommend an all “Breitenbach” show featuring the later harvest riesling and others. but thats a homer pick since they’re from ohio and so I am.

This will prove to be the end of my Lurking. Great show. Here’s my suggestion:

Carignan from All Over the World:
    Capichera Assaje 2005
    Matassa Rouge 2004
    Closa Batllet Priorat 2004

Bring the Thunder, Feel the Love… Doesn’t matter that you sell the wine, I trust you to be objective. I’ll bet most of your customers don’t watch Wine Library TV, and I bet most watchers never buy anything from you. Keep it up!

Great show, and thanks for the opportunity to see what the other wines were from 477.

I have tried to listen to your last two shows to learn what happened with the cab blind test. Well you babble so much I couldn’t take it and turned you off both times. So I don’t know what happened. I watch less and less of your shows. Twenty minutes out of my life for school yard games is too much for me ie a waste of my time. Put the dolls away and grow up. The only reason your on national TV is because they cater to buffoons of the world. Get some class man.

  • GV, here we go. It’s summer; it’s past memorial day. You haven’t done *any* PS since my Birthday shoutout in Feb.

So… tomorrow is BIG ASS BBQ WINES! Have a cheeseburger and some hotdogs and chow down as you sample these wines.

    1. Summers Estate Charbono 2006 (40091)
You carry one Charbono. You reviewed just one Charbono in the past, but that was Dick Vermeil’s — why not tell us about the one you carry. I’ve had the Tofanelli, and thought it was like a mid-range zin, only more complex. Interesting stuff. (Grilled duck breast or gourmet sausage)

    2. Laurona Montsant 2003 (27994) — Your only Montsant at the moment (and I think it’s cool that Montsant is the doughnut around Priorat). Well rated (92 JM), $22, and the notes make it sound like a good wine for BBQ. (Alternatively, a Priorat would work well too).

    3. My current PS QPR Champion: 2005 Concannon Petite Sirah Limited Release (38487)
Widely available, the supermarket across the street for me has it for TEN BONES. Not only that, but you favorably reviewed the ’04 at 89 last year, so it’s a nice segue from today’s show to tomorrow’s. (Let this breathe for more than the usual 2 hours). (Cheeseburger with BBQ sauce))

  • Gary,

Yes, I got an email at 3am saying, “I am not a bad guy.” First I thought, “Why the hell is Gary up at 3am?!?” but then I was sad that you somehow thought I was being negative, because I wasn’t at all! In your comments today you seem to be saying that those who commented questioning your reason for not airing the episode are in someway negatively judging your character, and I think that’s completely off, at least in my case! I haven’t missed a single episode (live, I don’t mean I went back in the archives) in nearly two years, and I love this movement and what you’re doing. My point was kind of the OPPOSITE of how you took it. I KNOW you’re a good guy and not trying to just sell the wine. I KNOW the episode was filmed blind, and you didn’t know what the wines were. Therefore, I wouldn’t have thought it was setup when I saw that your wine won. I would have thought, “That’s cool! He really IS trusting his own palate, since he didn’t know what the wines were yet the wine produced for his company wound up being the best value.” I’m sure you didn’t just go to a bar in California and say, “Anyone have any left over juice they want to bottle for me?” I’m sure you chose the producer carefully, etc.

I really wouldn’t have had a problem with not seeing the ending due to your explanation IF you hadn’t said at the end that your wine won! After you said that, the whole reason for not airing it went right out the window. 🙂

Perhaps there’s so many Vayniacs that you don’t recognize my name in the comments, or recall the emails we’ve exchanged… but I’ve been here pretty darn early and wouldn’t be questioning your character with the move. However, that doesn’t mean that I think every choice you may make is correct, and I think everyone should be able to hear constructive criticism from those who are around them without assuming the person is somehow judging them negatively. And likewise, when you meet ME in real life, you’ll see that while I may come across very straight forward and direct in type (read: asshole), I’m actually quite loving! Hopefully I’ll make it to the Portland book signing (though I already have two signed copies from Woot??), but remember when I invited you to my house in email last year after the my malt liquor spoof didn’t win the Vayniac contest, but the winner was in Portland? You said you’d come a day early for a drink. 🙂 Anyway, I still love you Gary, don’t worry! And thanks for allowing us to see the episode… Already got the email from Mott!

QOTD: Oh… I don’t know… 2005 Burgundy that you promised in several episodes and I wrote you a big long email about (though I’ve mostly figured out those answers by now)? 😉 Or are those already sold out? Actually, I already have my 6 cases of 2005 Burgundy, and now I’m on to 2004 Piedmonte and Veneto, which is suppose to rule. I just got half a case of each of the following from you, but haven’t popped any yet:

39345 – Manzone Barolo Bricat Gramolere 2004 (93 points Tanzer AND Galloni)
    38085 – Bussola Amarone Bg 2004

I’d love to hear your thoughts on those. But you said three… so…

    38225 – Zenato Amarone 2004

  • GV, I’ve searched and you’ve never tasted Tavel on The Thunder Show. We all need to expand our palates and taste a great summer rose from France!

    You’ve got two:

    Trinquevedel Tavel Rose: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=11884
Domaine Lafond Tavel Rose 2007: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=39946

Nice, quick show. Question of the day: Have you ever had a Tavel? If not, make that your goal this weekend!
