  • GV, I’ve searched and you’ve never tasted Tavel on The Thunder Show. We all need to expand our palates and taste a great summer rose from France!

    You’ve got two:

    Trinquevedel Tavel Rose: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=11884
Domaine Lafond Tavel Rose 2007: http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=39946

Nice, quick show. Question of the day: Have you ever had a Tavel? If not, make that your goal this weekend!

  • I would like to see some American Gewürtztraminers reviewed. Maybe some Rose’s from other than US, Australia or France as well. I haven’t watched yesterdays’s show so I don’t know what was the finish with the blind tasting.

QOTD: I only saw a couple of episodes where you have done port. The only real focus I saw was episode 102 on Vintage Ports that run some serious bones out of the wallet and require a lot of time investment. I think I may get one for my newborn to share when she turns 21. Anyway, I think an episode showcasing the LBV Ports and some explanation of the different choices Ports offer in Ruby, Tawny, LBV and Vinatage would help with bringing great value today to those interested expanding the pal outside of the RED/WHITE wine drinking.

QOTD: I debated and debated this but I really would love for you to do a show on Canadian Reds, specifically from BC. I know you highlighted the Osoyoos a number of episodes back, but MAN Canada has some great ones. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful girlfriend who lives in the Vancouver area, who has encouraged my tasting and totally embraced trying anything and everything in the win world. And whenever I go up there I get to try these amazing wines. I know WL doesn’t have any reds from BC( just some ice wines) so maybe it’s a later show sometime. But there are some really great things. The 2nd label from Osoyoos is amazing, had it on my last trip up there. Along with some really interesting varietals that I’d never heard of; Baco Noir for instance. Gosh this is getting long winded. ANYWAYS, I’d call it “Not just America’s Hat: Great reds from Canada”

Maybe if it’s not tomorrow for lack of BC reds maybe some other time.

Great show Gary, it’s good to have you back doing them “live”. You bring crazy energy everyday. Don’t let people get you down.

QOTD: That’s a tough one, how do you manage to pick wines for each show?
I’ve been filling out my wishlist with cheap wines, lets see you take them on. Do you think anything will bring it?

Cheap, Cheap Pink Wines, Any Thunder To Be Found?

    Moncao Danaide Vinho Verde Red 2007, $5 – 34026
    Vinho Verde. Pink? What?

Jean Luc Colombo Cote Bleue Rose 2006, $6 – 33924
The importer says “intriguing notes of raspberry, cherry and black olive.” I’m intrigued.

    Montaud Rose Cotes De Provence 2007, $7 – 39547
What do you have to say about Provonce rose? I don’t know anything about it, but I feel like I should.

GV, I think the peeps are blew things up way too much regarding last weeks 10 dollar cab episode…. they just need to lighten up a bit. It’s not like this is the 6 o’clock news or something and the episode caused a riot! We’re talking about wine, people!

QOTD: Too many choices for me to decide… maybe a mooch money muscat show (cheap muscats)! There are many variations on this grape, and I’d love to learn about the the versatility of this varietal. Some do dry wines, some do super-concentrated dessert wines (also old and new world)! 39817, 39817, & 17360 would fit the bill!

GREAT Question of the Day!!!! P.S. 13 is my lucky number!

    QOTD:

Title: Kosher Thunder, or The Episode To End All Doubts About Kosher Wine!

    Wines:

    1. Kadesh Barnea Gilad 2005 – http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=31161
Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Shiraz/Syrah… and we all know how much you love P.V.!
    2. Domaine Du Castel 2005 – http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=37867
I’m pretty sure this is Cab (Sauvignon), Merlot, and Petit Verdot. I think you did the ’03 vintage a while back?
    3. Jonathan Tishbi Sde Boker Special Reserve 2004 – http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=39916
Obviously from page 196 of “101 Wines”; can I get a “link it up”? Cab, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Presumably this would go along with a little diatribe a la GV about the history of kosher wine, why it gets a bad rap (cough cough Manischewitz cough cough; not that I don’t appreciate the tradition it represents, but let’s be honest… use of the Concord grape has given kosher wine horrible street cred), and why kosher wine coming out of Israel (and Napa; I did see Friday’s Covenant episode) is turning out to be so good (e.g. winemakers trained at places like UC Davis (Yair Margalit) and with experience from quality California, Australian, etc. wineries (such as Golan Tishbi and Victor Schoenfeld). Maybe a little something about Daniel Rogov? A Gary V. trip to Israeli boutique wineries? Who knows?

Anyways, that is my show idea for tomorrow. Thanks! Oh, and by the way, I think what you did with yesterday’s show (giving the full and clear explanation of what happened in episode 477) was definitely the right thing to do. That said, I’m going to go watch “The Lost Episode” now! 🙂 All the best!
