    Ooops … only 3 wines …. listed 5 above – pick 3 of the 5

  • Aaron S.

GREAT Question of the Day!!!! P.S. 13 is my lucky number!

    QOTD:

Title: Kosher Thunder, or The Episode To End All Doubts About Kosher Wine!

    Wines:

    1. Kadesh Barnea Gilad 2005 – Library Code 31161
Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Shiraz/Syrahâ?¦ and we all know how much you love P.V.!
    2. Domaine Du Castel 2005 – Library Code 37867
Iâ??m pretty sure this is Cab (Sauvignon), Merlot, and Petit Verdot. I think you did the â??03 vintage a while back?
    3. Jonathan Tishbi Sde Boker Special Reserve 2004 – Library Code 39916
Obviously from page 196 of â??101 Winesâ?; can I get a â??link it upâ?? Cab, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Presumably this would go along with a little diatribe a la GV about the history of kosher wine, why it gets a bad rap (cough cough Manischewitz cough cough; not that I donâ??t appreciate the tradition it represents, but letâ??s be honestâ?¦ use of the Concord grape has given kosher wine horrible street cred), and why kosher wine coming out of Israel (and Napa; I did see Fridayâ??s Covenant episode) is turning out to be so good (e.g. winemakers trained at places like UC Davis (Yair Margalit) and with experience from quality California, Australian, etc. wineries (such as Golan Tishbi and Victor Schoenfeld). Maybe a little something about Daniel Rogov? A Gary V. trip to Israeli boutique wineries? Who knows?

Anyways, that is my show idea for tomorrow. Thanks! Oh, and by the way, I think what you did with yesterdayâ??s show (giving the full and clear explanation of what happened in episode 477) was definitely the right thing to do. That said, Iâ??m going to go watch â??The Lost Episodeâ? now! All the best!

P.S. Sorry if this comes across as a double post; I think the links made me go to moderation… so I just went with the Library Codes.

Port. We need to see more port. Desperately so. How about 2003 Vintage?
    Graham 2003 2327
    Niepoort 2003 28259
    Quinta Do Noval 2003 3271

Get people over the idea that its just an old man’s drink. Also us younger viewers need to get into this stuff now so that when its ready to be drunk were still alive.

Just wanted to say I appreciate the email Gary. I know you’re a busy guy. Big ups to you. Seriously, I think folks need to spend some time going through the archives to see where all this started and get to know you a little better. Great show and nice to see you rockin’ the hizzy in the thunder saddle!

QOTD: “Old world wines that bring the thunder and don’t break the bank”. I have no idea what wines that would be, but I’m really curious and would like to try some someday soon!

  • Gary, as someone who writes about California’s Central coast, I have to take exception to the categorizing (on your store web site) of Monterey and Santa Barbara County wines as “Other California”. That suggests some sort of marginalization of these prominent and important wine regions as if there were only a few scant vines south of San Francisco.

The Central Coast has as many acres of vines as Napa and Sonoma put together. Furthermore, the regions making up the Cnetral Coast have distinct climates and give very unique wines of high quality.

    With respect,

    Arthur

  • Mike S,

Not quite sure why people were so up in arms about last weeks show. It really wasn’t a big deal at all. I couldn’t come up with three, but would love to see 39281 reviewed sometime.

Gary, I keep asking for a double blind tasting where you try to geuss the varietal, price-point, geography, etc. Are you afraid or something?

Hi Gary. QOTD – 1. How about a show on old wines – literally the oldest vintages that you can find, well outside their drinking windows?
    2. Also not sure if you’ve done it but Sardinian Wines? 3. Also wine packaging – a show on wines out of the heaviest bottles in the store in terms of weight and asking why wineries need to use unnecessary amounts of packaging to stand out (environmental angle/wines supposed to be big and powerful but actually aren’t) etc. etc.

Thanks for the link to the blind tasting episode. Was interesting to see the other 5 and how they ranked.

Congratulations on doing a tough job well.

Thanks for the complete version of episode 477. Was just curious. We know what you’re all about and love you for it.

Not barbecue wines, but reason to celebrate on the 4th of July. Maybe a necessary 4th wine for the 4th. Undoubtedly a sparkling Rose by J. Think you only carry the white. Should stock the Rose, if you don’t already.

  • QOTD: I also would enjoy a port tasting. Just the smell of port usually scares me, so I would like to learn more about it.

    Wines of the Mediterranean.

I wish you had a Turkish wine too. There are a whole bunch of fancy new Turkish, Greek and Lebanese restaurants opening in NYC (Pera, Kellari, ilili), and they seem to be proud of each others’ wines. Even even the Turkish restaurants have Greek wines, and the Lebanese restaurants have Israeli wines.

Never a dull moment on the show. Don’t get your knickers in a twist over what some have to say. Keep your eyes on the prize-changing the wine world.
QOTD: A salute to Canucks-Okanagan wines, Canadian Icewine, Riesling etc. A Great White North show would be appreciated.

I see that a bunch of other people asked for wines from Sardinia, from Greece, from Lebanon and from Israel. Although I like my original idea of choosing one from each country, I would be happy to see a whole episode on each country separately (although you recently did an Israeli show).

Don’t have time to search the wines of winelib right now but thought tasting wines “The oldest and newest from the oldest.”
Have some super old school producer/wines/grapes from Greece go head to head with some of the newest kids on the block.

    I was going to say – the 3 best lo-alcohol ‘school-night’ wines…

but then I saw such a thing as ‘vinho verde’ red and I’m fascinated.

any 2 of the whites + the red would be great…
