    GV,

What do you mean tou don’t like the Cowboys!! That’s ok, my dad hate’s the Cowboys also. My dad grew up back east and is still a big Jets fan and heckles me about the Cowboys all the time. All I tell him is one thing, “when was the last time the Jets won a super bowl”…When somebody name Joe was the quarterback….

Ok, back to wine…I live in Texas and I have not found any Texas wines yet that I really like.

    DFC from Dallas
    Go Cowboys!!

Interesting show Gary. I’ll be moving to Houston from Indiana 2 weeks and I’ll be interested in checking the scene there.

QOTD: I’m very new with wines but I’m going to go with some of the wines in the Indiana region. The Valvin Muscat from Oliver winery is real interesting, with amazing honeydew action going on. Then there’s the lovely Blueberry wine, made just from blueberries by Butler winery, tart with strong cassis flavors.

Don’t give up on the Becker wines. I’ve visited their winery, tasted barrel samples there, and tried their entire line. Yes, the Viognier is one of their best consistently. Also try the Reserve Chard, and the Cab-Syrah blend, and even their Zin with fruit sourced from New Mexico.

    Interesting show GV!

Q-Burnett Ridge, from Cincinnati, Ohio. Kind of cheating though, they use Cali fruit.

Nice to see Texas get a shot, but the results are expected. I’ve only had a couple of Texas wines I enjoyed. One was a VERY limited batch by the wine maker of a Hill Country winery. I guess partof his deal was the owners gave him a batch of grapes and let him do whatever he wanted. Wish I’b bought more. A couple other small production wines about that aren’t bad. Inwood, and Fuqua using High Plain Tempranillo grapes and interesting urban wineries. Still a long way to go all in all.

GV Should you end up in Houston again try the wine bar 13deg C. Friends turned me on to it. Nice wine and cheese selections

?OD: Probably none that stand out. Too often too sweet and overpriced. Do want to try the Gruet though.

    Gary,
Would love to see someone review North Carolina wines, especially the Chambourcin, which I like but most people pan out of hand.

QOTD: Pennsylvania….it’s the only other state where I’ve tasted the wine. By default it has to be my answer. I tasted it. I didn’t buy it.

QOTD: White wines from Virgina (Charlottesville area)are showing well. Keswick and Veritas are producing some full bodied Voignier and passable Chards. The reds are still light and thin, but improving.
In time, sooner than later, with the right varentials, they will be near the top.

QOTD: Never ever had a wine from the US minus those four states…

How bout another show with Weird wines from unknown places… fun.

Hey Gary, what up with the shirt? what does it mean?

  • QOTD: eliminating the 4 states leaves me with no joy. I’ve had TX and NC wines, and did not enjoy them at all.

BTW GV…I left a copy of your book with friends in China last week!

Good (and tough) question…..have only had SC, NC, VA. two best
where Chrysalis Vineyard Albarino and Lake Anna 2002 Merlot.
Very suprised!!!!!… and reasonable for the young wine scene in these areas. Both held up great!! I would put the Albarino up with Nora from spain and the merlot with a Columbia Crest
    GO DRINK SOME LOCAL WINE.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next Saturday is the Central VA wine festival at Innsbrook, Richmond – 12 wineries http://www.richmondhokies.org/ is hosting.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

QOTD: I’ve had some good wines from good ‘ol Jersey. That’s right New Jersey! Okay I’ll admit I’ve had some pretty bad ones too. lol

I gotta admit, I’ve never really thought of Texas as a wine state…. long neck beers are the first thing that come to mind. 🙂

GV, you should seek out the weirdest most remote, nobody-would-ever-think that wine could come from place and to a WLTV episode on the wines from that “place”! Talk about expanding palates. hehe that might be pretty cool! 🙂

Hey Gary, how about tasting some wines from northern michigan. There are some great producers making some nice wines up here (especially white wine: riesling, pinot grigio, etc.) Left Foot Charley, Bowers Harbor Vineyards, Brys Estates, list goes on. You should really get up here! Give me a shout!

We just took a trip to Tabor Hill Vineyard in Michigan for some tasting and enjoyed a wide variety of wines. They boast quite a trophy case and seem to be a real force to be reckoned with. We’d love to see you do a Tabor Hill tasting on your show!
