Top show, two of the best varietals for me!

Best palate cleanser? I like to have some nice fresh foccacia and some good olive oil to dip it into. Whether or not it cleans the palate I’m not all that sure, but it’s a good thing to do with friends when you’ve got a few bottles open.

I agree completely that Zins can get hot hot hot! They also don’t age particularly well. I would say maybe 3 to 4 years generally is about the max. Especially the massive, super-ripe, flabby, alcoholic monsters. Turley is one that I’ve found to be quite disappointing after a few years. No longer purchase them. Storybook Mountain’s zinfandels have historically aged very nicely, probably because they are generally well balanced wines with the alcohol under control (almost claret-like in their elegance).

    QOTD: buttered bread and water

I sure would like to taste the Sangiovese blend.
Qotd… not sure I really need anything to cleanse my pal but when going from one wine to another I don’t pay much attention until the second taste.

Good Show. As a big Zin and Sangio fan, I enjoy hearing about wines that I have not tasted yet. Zins typically are our Friday night wine because of the alcohol. Our favorites have been from Elyse in Napa.

QOTD: I am with Gary on this, I do not like cleansing my palate between tastings.

I look at woot deals all the time, never really thought they had much in the way of wine. Doesn’t sound like you liked any of the wines today either…

Time to check out Woot. This is the first I have heard of them.

QOTD: Best cleanser is plain seltzer water. The water plus carbonation cleans out the pal like a pressure wash.

  • For whatever reason, I’d never heard of Woot.com before…interesting website. Great show here, I need to do a better job tasting zins, as I felt “in the dark” through a lot of the conversation.

QOTD: I don’t cleanse my palate…but if I were to, maybe tonic water…

  • I’m waiting for this Wanabe…

QOTD: I’m eager to see what others think, because I want to know! I generally either use nothing, or wheat thins, because I always have what thins around… but honestly I don’t think they’re that good of a palate cleanser, because they’re too tasty. But what I guess DOES work is a wheat thin, then rinsing my mouth out with water. But again, usually nothing.

    David

  • i love woot.com!!!!!! wayyy better than amazon (even though you can not compare them)

  • qotd… I like to cleanse my palate with a thin slice of French bread, either plain or dipped in a bit of olive oil if it’s available.

QOTD — I prefer just plain water!
