I had the Balvenie 15 – Year and was underwhelmed. Very smooth, but not much character to get excited about. The 10-Year Macallan on the other hand was half the price and much tastier:

I never was a wrestling fan. Watch the links and I am still not. Guess I never found the entertainment in it.

Scotch show was great, change up was fun.

QOTD: I know I will offend all the apple fanboys out there but sorry, apple is like the fisher price computer. The more people learn about computer and as the next generation of computer kids grow up the more people will out grow the limitations that apple offers. I think when Jobs goes apple will die out.

Great show, now you need to do an episode on Vodka’s and Gin’s.
QOTD: I don’t know, he saved Apple by coming back after he left.

  • Great show – how about a gin taste-off, Old Raj, Bluecoat, Hedricks, Boodles.
    I’ll bring the glasses.

  • QOTD: Apple has a bright future.

  • Great show guys. I love it when you mix in some beer library, vodka library and scotch library with all the great wine libraries.

QOTD: The stock will definitely take a hit and the first Apple convention after he leaves will be really important. I’m going to say yes because their branding is so strong now.

  • Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage is not only one of the greatest matches of all time, but that was one of the greatest story lines in wrestling history. Everything was perfect. The throat injury, Bobby Henan’s comments (“You know what Steamboat is saying about it? Nothing.”) and the Wrestlemania match.

killer episode! i have been dying to see a scotch episode (i was almost ready to do one myself, haha). I’m really glad you guys tried laphroaig, it is one of my favorite scothes. I haven’t tried the talisker before, but i may go out and snag it tonight.

*IMPORTANT* if you did enjoy the laphroaig (this goes for anyone reading this, and hopefully gary as well) you *MUST* go out and buy the lagavulin 16 year. To my palate, this scotch is absolute perfection. you must be warned that it is very peaty and a little hot, but the flavor profile and the complexities of the taste are second to none.

QOTD: of course apple will survive jobs, there is no doubt in my mind. Now that may sound like an apple fanboy answer, but as it happens i am as far from an apple fan as can be. I do own an ipod touch, but only because there is no other device with its feature set on the market. I absolutely despise apple and their business ethics. I find apple to be even more unbearable than microsoft. That said, i still believe that apple holds a key market share that is nearly impenetrable and I see them doing business for many years to come. However, i do not seem them becoming a majority market share holder in the technology sector (to be truthful, there are just too many apple haters like myself out there).

  • Being a geek and sports fan from CA you’d think he’d know the name of Oakland As ballpark: McAfee Stadium

That being said, not a fan of alcohol-driven so this episode had no relevance to me whatsoever. Actually, I hate any alcoholic beverages other than beer and wine. Why not a beer show since it supposedly pairs better with food than wine.

QOTD: Didn’t Jobs leave before and Apple survived? In this stage of the game, no one person has a major effect on as big a corp as Apple. See Bill Gates.

  • QODT: I don’t think Apple can survive without Jobs. He is so overpowering and has the final say on everything to the point where no one else there is capable of following in his footsteps. If he cares about the success of the company following his time there, he needs to slowly step back and let someone else have a say in something, much like Bill Gates has done.

  • Smorgy

great show i really enjoyed it and you should definitely do it more often.

qotd: yes i think new blood in apple will be a welcome change for the better, not that steve jobs isnt doing his job really well. but there are alot of things about the apple brand that will change with new blood and i think itll make apple an even better brand.

  • This show has inspired me to give Scotch another go, in the past I’ve been immediately overpowered and put off but maybe with a bit more consideration and a slower pace I can find something I like.

QOTD: A company like apple can not be a one man show, I’m sure Jobs has a crack team alongside him to whom he is passing on his vision.

Excellent show; and yes as previously suggested, do the vodka, gin, bourbon, and rum tastings; especially do Tequila. I hope you didn’t pollute that nice scotch with New Jersy tap water!
    Smell it first.

  • QOTD- Don’t know who that is, don’t really care to be honest.
As much as I like my Apple products!
    Sorry.

Never had scotch. Must try it once.

I’m drinking an awful 05 bordeaux right now, but somehow I’m still really enjoying it.
So here goes my theory on why it was such a crazy amazing vintage:
They’ve put dope in the damn things!
    ; )

I wish I could know in advance what was going to be tasted so I could run out to my local store, get some and taste along with you.
Great show, although I’m into the wine scene, I’d like to see additional shows on different spirits because you have such an excellent take on smelling and tasting.

Fun show but I have to say you guys made me shake my head a few times. First, you put way too much water in the scotch. You really only need to put a few drops in otherwise you totally delute the flavor of the scotch. Maybe a small ice cube at most. 2nd, you can’t really compare a 10 year old Laphroaig with the 175th anniversary Talisker. It’s like comparing a 2006 Cab to a 10 year old Bardoux. The 15 year old Laphroaig would give the Talisker a run for it’s money. Lastly, you have to mention where the Scotches are made. Talisker and Laphroaig are island scotches and Balvenie is a Spayside. Island scotches are peatier and spaysides have a hint of fruit in the taste. The region impacts the taste big time. Thanks for the show gentlemen. I’m going to open a bottle of Lagavulin in honor of the two of you.

As for the question of the day, Apple will survive without Jobes. He’s done so good of a job setting their strategy and direction that it can flourish without him.

  • Hey Gary! Nice curveball with the show on Scotch! I am not very familiar with Scotch at all (other than it being really harsh to the taste).

I always love the everpresent respect and attention given to sports entertainment (WWE)! It fits so well with this show!

Answer to the Question of the Day: Apple will handle a changing of the guard if and when the need arises. Mr. Jobs has been an effective leader of the company, but everyone, over time, can be replaced.

Follow up to my earlier comment:
Iâ??ve gotten myself all worked up over armagnac (or cognac). When one does finally introduce some of the liquid to the mouth, one shouldnâ??t do all of that swishy-swish. You donâ??t take in too much; tilt your head back; hold it in the back of your mouth; turn off your mind relax and float down stream. If youâ??re thinking â??when should I swallowâ? youâ??re not doing it right. You neglected to turn off your mind. The future will come. There will be a point in the future when you donâ??t have this wonderful stuff in your mouth, and the bottle and glass wonâ??t be there. You donâ??t need to worry how youâ??ll get from point A to point B. Just enjoy point A. Maybe you should invite me to the armagnac show. If you want Iâ??ll bring my own.

great change of pace loved the show. As far as one of the greatest matches ever you have to give it up to Sabu vs Terry Funk The “born to be wired” match from ECW (before vince bought them out and made it a shell of its self) check that out on youtube
QOTD: Apple is a very niech company and has changed the game with the Ipod but the company will live on with Steve Jobs by the time he lets go of the company who knows what the new IT thing will be

That was an absolutely fantastic show, and I think Matt totally made the show! I will look into learning more about scotch now too.

QOTD: Apple will survive without Steve only because there are so many talented people working there, and new talent is always cropping up.

    Great show Matt and Gary.

QOTD: Hopefully Apple are searching the globe for another Steve Jobs. Someone with the craziest ideas but ideas which excite people. Maybe time for Gary to step up… or over.
