I had the Balvenie 15 – Year and was underwhelmed. Very smooth, but not much character to get excited about. The 10-Year Macallan on the other hand was half the price and much tastier:

  • Excellent show. I’ve been a fan of Laphroaig for a bit now, but Talisker is also great.

QOTD: Apple will survive Steve Jobs, but it will change drastically. Wouldn’t be surprised if they go down the road of cheaper gear. Of course, that could spell Apple’s end, but may also make it just another technology company.

Fun show, now I need a scotch! That’s a little hard get get during work hours.

QOTD: Apple will tumble pretty far without Mr. Jobs. But Apple will rebound. Some new hero will take the reigns. Things are usually cyclical. COME ON ECONOMY!!!

WOWZ Gary this episode KILLED it!!! I don’t drink scotch often but a buddy of mine does. He had me taste that Laphroaig and it was good stuff. I found that if you put 2 ice cubes in and let them melt it is the perfect balance 🙂

    QOTD:
-I think they should be fine if Jobs leaves. They are gaining market share and now with the iPhone i think they are gaining more. Plus the apple computer world is solid as well. They should be fine without him.

QOTD Steve Jobs is the driving force, the apples would prune up
rither and decompose a slow death.

Scotch fun show… Desert wine Show? next.

Great show. I can’t wait until the day I start enjoying scotch.

QoTD: Apple will become a boring company. Survive? yes. But not thrive.

  • Great episode guys, if there was one more thing I want to get into besides wine it is scotch. Question of the day though; can Apple survive without Steve Jobs? I think at this point in their life after the iEverything yes. They have spawned a culture of not just niche geeks or digital artists but college students in droves are out there using MacBooks and wearing iPods and talking on their iPhones. Soon Apple will e bringing you their iCulture in homes, cars and fashion and then it transcends tech, computers and a brand to become the way we integrate high tech and our everyday lives.

QOTD: I believe that Apple will survive, Steve Jobs has just created an grand slam with the iPhone and I see no end in the near future. Can he manage to mess up a good thing? You bet he can (cough cough..Bill Gates…VISTA).

Fantastic episode GV! I’m a big scotch drinker and love that you incorporated in this into your show.

A ‘wee bit’ of water with scotch is the way to go, but skip the Balvenie and go for the Glenmorangie Sherry Wood. Yes, Apple will survive but it will not be the same growth engine without Jobs – history already proved this.

Loved the episode guys. Great job!!!

QOTD: I believe so, but hopefully he has trained someone well, or I think they will become a very very late second player.

GV glad you enjoyed the talisker, but I have found that many of their other expression offer much better QPR. You should check out the distiller edition and the 18 yr, I find the 175th anniversary to be tired and boring compared to the two I suggest.

Apple can survive off of it’s current products as long as no one else challenges them in the future.

So now that I think about it, there is no way apple survives.

Apple will not survive the long haul. They can carry the success of their current products but once Steve is gone they will lose the visionary and direction. They ultimately will be bought by someone.

  • Great show, Gary! I too love the Laphroaig, and I think more wine drinkers would enjoy scotch if they gave it a serious try, so thanks for helping fuel the crossover. Photomatt was great as always, and to answer the QOTD, I do *not* think Apple could ever be the same without Steve, and in a way, we already witnessed that during his departure and return in the 90s, during which time Apple nearly died.

    Finally a scotch episode!

Even though you guys didn’t know as much about single malts as you do about wine, it was still fun to watch.

Not a big fan of the scotch, but interesting to throw some variety of beverage into the thunder show.

I agree with Paulie D. A wee bit of water helps bring out the aromatics and the flavor. Try Highland Park 18 Year Old. You really must.

I don’t know if Apple will survive.

  • Very cool show! I have always spent the most money on bottles of wine versus scotch, but I do enjoy a nice scotch on the rocks now and again.

Any plans on doing a bourbon show??? Now that is a show I could sink my….. ummmmm …… liver in to!

QOTD – I think Apple will have a harder time surviving without Steve Jobs than Microsoft will without Bill Gates, but I do think they will survive. Much of the best talent in the computer world, that are interested in the corporate world, tend to gravitate towards Apple anyways….. The tekkie’s I know called Microsoft “Microsuck”, or even worse, “Majorsuck.”

GREAT show, love scotch love the show!

QOTD: I don’t know if they can. I think Jobs is THE part of apple. Without him I think they lose their direction, become (fittingly for this episode) watered down. And because of that will fail.
