How about a really good riesling show for summer — German wines are getting the best overall scores in wine spectator magazine.

QOTD: I’ve never had a wine from Israel. They are a bit hard to find where I live. I’ll keep my eyes open for one.

Great show, I was thinking about getting into some Israeli wines. I haven’t had one yet, but the next wine I am drinking is the Tishbi Cabernet-Petite Sirah, so I am excited about that.

QOTD — Dalton, Cabernet Reserve 1998. Also have enjoyed several bottles of the Galil Moutain Yiron. (Both are Kosher) Also have a bottle of Har’El at home that I have not yet tried (not Kosher).

Golan Heights Winery – Katzrin(red bordeaux blend) 2000

This is an excellent wine, and really the crown jewel of Israeli winemaking.
Only produced in superb vinatges, and pricey ($100 or so), but really fabulous from that part of the world.

Hmmm – I normally don’t look through the comments much, but some of them caught my attention.

I do agree that looking at the Ustream computer is a little distracting, but really don’t care. I know that you love wine, the Jets, and technology. This show helps give you a way to dive into all types of new applications and distribution methods. So good, and enjoy it, but I will probably keep watching on your WLTV site. As for you running a business, as long as your IT group is following the rules, why would viewers and customers be upset? I think you have been very fair to us all by giving honest wine reviews, including wines that you do not carry. You also have great prices and encourage people to find wines at their local stores. Anyway, hope the negativity doesn’t get you too down!

QOTD – I have typically had a hard time finding wines from Israel in the store, but I will keep looking. I am actually interested by the Kosher/Non-kosher issue. I think, if all the ‘rules’ are followed, but the wine maker is not kosher certified and comes near the wine, it is ‘disqualified’. This seems like a problem to me. Only certain ‘kosher’ folks can be involved in those wines – restricting a lot of the global winemaking talent from being involved. Thankfully non-kosher wines don’t have the restriction.

  • My best Israeli wine so far? Carmel Winery Limited Edition 2002, a red blend from the Upper Galilee. Notes- Good, but not great. Over-parkerized, with American Oak/vanilla competing with the fruit.

I definitely appreciate you doing wines from less known regions. Many have led me to acquire and try new wines. Iâ??ve got a lot of wine in the cellar so these days I donâ??t always rush right out every time you present a different varietal or region. I watch, I learn, and I sip what Iâ??ve got on hand. Iâ??ve never had an Israeli wine. Maybe some day I will, maybe I wonâ??t. Either way I appreciate these shows. If you find thunder in India Iâ??d love to hear about it in a future show.

    Good Show!

QOTD: Margalit 2004 (Merlot or CS). Great wine and very consistent year after year for over a decade now. Also Castel Grand Vin is very good.

Old fashion Yarden (again Merlot or CS) from good vintages such as 2004 is always a solid choice and rolls in at about $20-25 a bottle. Way better than similarly priced CA wines.

  • nice choice for this episode. I’m digging hearing about wine from places you don’t automatically think of for it.

QOTD: I’ve not had one to my knowledge, but I’ll look for it when I go shopping tonight!

I really like it when you show the up and coming “new” wine areas. This always gives me something to throw at my local wine merchant.

QOTD: I don’t believe I’ve had a wine from Israel. Now I have to add it to the list with Tannat.

Rowland – you are complete idiot for leaving political comments here (and even more so when they are ignorant and hateful). This is the exact opposite of what drinking and enjoying wine together is all about of what Gary is doing. Please don’t do it again.

  • I have had Israeli wines before but nothing that moved me, in a good way at least. Sounds like it is time to revisit.
