QOTDs: 1. Never had one. 2. On the Thunder Cruise?

  • Hey Gary !!

Very glad you presented a nice non kosher Israeli wine selection. I am Israeli, sommelier and an everyday vayniak watcher of your thunder shows. The Israeli wine I had been stunned with was Domaine du Castel Grand Vin 2000, a remarkable wine to me.
If you need a guide for your next Israel wine trail, I am your man !

Great show Gary. The folks complaining about your “offbeat” selections don’t understand what WLTV is all about. It’s about trying different things from different places and truly educating your palate.

Out of about 75 bottles in my cellar I’m happy to report that there are only a handful of which I have more than one bottle of.

Keep up the awesome show! Cripes, like there aren’t enough wine reviewers out there rating all the “standard” stuff?

QOTD- A Yarden Cab, don’t remember the vintage. Have had several other great wines from Israel. Not surprising, from the people who made the desert bloom. Am Yisrael chai!

  • I would really enjoy trying an Israeli wine – I’m going to go and seek out a few in the coming weeks. I’ve never had one before – thanks for the great episode. I really like it when you do wines from non-traditional locations.

Keep up the great work Gary,

  • Interesting show and I will be looking to find something, anything from Israel in the next few weeks.

Back from lurkerdom now that I’ve resolved some tech. problems …

Fascinating; I can’t really say I’ve tried Israeli wine — it’s just not somewhere I think of.

QoTD: I’ll have a look next time I’m buying!

Enjoyed the show. We’ll keep an eye out for some Isreali wines –
    especially the Flam.

QOTD: Haven’t yet but I will be looking, promise.

PS – Tell “Rowland” to keep his politics to himself. This is a wine forum

QOTD: When I can find one. Living in a medium sized town in the Midwest, Israeli wines are really not too visible.

Sorry to be a hater today, but I’d have to agree with drift on the double taping nonsense. You are becoming like diarrhea, Gary being all over the place – here/viddler, itunes/ustream/twitter, etc. Any thought of over exposure?

What really pisses me off tho since i’m in a ranting mood, is that the emails you send out have every link surreptitiously clicking thru to a tracking site called publicaster before flipping over to the wine library site. Isn’t it enough that we go and buy wines from Wine library? Do you have some obsession to know every source of interest that comes through from your materials? Isn’t it enough to know who is hitting your web site from viewing your video and leaving comments? or from people viewing pages on the WL store pages? I find it very distasteful that your email links say that you are going to the wine library site when in fact they do goto publicaster. in ohdoctor’s lingo, i would have to call this d-bagery at the highest level.

Now lately the video feed through this web site stops many times after it has already downloaded the whole show. i then have to click it to start it again from that point. Are we now tracking how long we are watching the video too? while this episode stopped about 20 times, it seems to occur often at the breaks between switching wines. Given the email d-bagery, i wouldn’t be surprised.

Beware fellow vayniacs, everything you get is being tracked. for what reason, i dont know. it sure seems like wine library does enough business with out all this obsessive internet tracking. Frankly i was very sad to find that GV/WL would stoop to this. I hope they reconsider this practice.

If you read this Gary, i do apologize for having to be a hater. I love the WLTV show and have bought wine from WL over the internet. I will visit the store sometime too since i live back in nj now. i’m planning on buying even more. but FWIW i will NEVER click on a link that leads me off to a tracking site. I’d rather spend 2 seconds to type in the search on the WL web site itself. This may seem picayune, but i take it as a matter of principle.

    Gary,
Just wanted to tell you I love your show! I just discovered it last week for the first time, and I went back and watched like 50+ old episodes over the past 5 days.

I really love wines, but since I’m only 19, it’s rare that I get the opportunity to try new things. Occasionally, my parents will bring home a bottle of red wine from the grocery store and serve me a glass with dinner, but that’s about it. I think I’ve tried 3-4 Pinot Noirs, 2 Cabs, a Shiraz, and a Pinot Grigio, but I’m aching to try more. If only I was born two years earlier…

I loved your tips on how to expand your palette, and I’ve already started going out of my way eating/smelling new things. If you get this, can you recommend any other things I can do to help me be more knowledgeable so that by the time I reach 21, I’ll be more prepared to help my peers get into it too? Thanks!

  • Gary…is it just me or are the comments on this episode a bit on the negative side??? What gives??? Where’s the love???

QOTD: I had a bunch of Israeli friends over my house for New Years Eve 1999 into 2000. They brought an Israeli wine but for the life of me I can’t remember the name. We’ll probably have them over again next New Years and they’ll bring another one over. I’ll have to make note of it.

PS- Green and White scrimage at Shuart Stadium was cool…but it started to rain so we left (the kids and I) at the end of the first quarter. It looks like our first rounders are going to major contributors this year!!! When are we “Training Our Pals”???

I’ve only tasted one, and all I remember is that it was a Cab. A nice guest brought one into the restaurant I used to manage and shared a glass with me. I remember liking it, but not much else. It is time to seek some out. Unfortunately there aren’t many that are brought into the market here in Oregon, but I shall make it so number 1.

  • PS I just read through all the negativity and am also a lil dissapointed. What’s up everybody? Gary’s stickin to his guns and doing a lot to build community. Yes, he’s running a ‘business’ and doing a lot of ‘brand building’ – but that’s what got us all here in the first place right?

Stay true Gary! And all the ones complaining about ‘offbeat’ wines: truly saddening to read. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but if we lose ours it may kill our hearts. Stay curious!

  • Simple solution to the “double taping”/ Ustream/ looking off to the right issue: put the computer (or web cam or whatever) across the table from Gary – near Mott’s camera – so the angle is essentially the same.
