Gary, how hard would it be to get the ustream camera coming from Mott’s camera, or at least place the webcam at a similar angle to the main camera? I have a formal education in TV production, so believe me when I say that when you look away from the viewer all the time, you’re breaking the number one rule of the talking-head type show. You make the viewer feel like they’re not being talked to directly, like they’re not the most important audience. This might be a big factor turning off those ex-viewers you mentioned!

Israel bringin’ the thunder! Yeah, Ohio will get a new climate in about 30-40 years to make things better!

QOTD: Nada, but I do have a couple Bulgarian wines to try!

  • Great show Gary. Very cool idea looking at non-Kosher Israeli wines, but c’mon, you gotta either move things around in your office so your computer is next to your main camera or set up an external usb/firewire webcam for ustream.tv that you put next to Mott’s camera. It really takes me out of the show when you keep addressing your monitor on your right side.

Love the show, I hope you get to do some more tv spots like your appearances on Conan, it was so much fun at your Bounce live meetup last time.

Once had a Manoshevich (sp?) when I was in my teens (some 50 years ago), but that doesn’t really count, does it? When will I have another? Probably when there is peace in the Middle East, which of course, is never. Too many good South American wines to explore first…….and at a price point more fitting to my wallet.

QOTD: Never had one but will most certainly look to try one the next time I go wine shopping.

  • 4 for 4! Now I need to head for the store and see if I can find at least one of these.

QOTD: Haven’t had Israeli wine, but will put it on “the list”

Never had an Israeli wine. I checked out Israeli Wine Direct, pricing seems somewhat high, but that may be because the US dollar is getting hosed. Some great label designs which I always like. Also unbelievably low production from some of the wineries listed, 730 bottles for the original vintage! I may scour around the local vino shops to see what I can find.

  • Gary, I wouldn’t worry too much about the old viewers of WLTV. You have plenty of new Vayniacs (myself included) who are ready to watch the next 500+ episodes. Keep it up!

To me, this is what WLTV is all about. Back-to-back-to-back shows on wines from Ohio, Uruguay, and now Israel, were very informative, and makes me want to explore new wine areas. Great show(s).

    QOTD: None yet.

  • Goosebumps . . . yes, this was one impressive show! I love the Israeli wines and please keep reading the back of the labels since I fantasize traveling to these very historical places. The label sells me quite often I must admit.

If you decide to travel to Israel, I will carry your bags, free of charge.

QOTD: I have had this wine and have touted its quality ever since you reviewed it awhile back. Great cab for me.

    Again, great show.

  • Israeli Wine Direct does not ship to DC!!!!!

Damn it! This HAS to change!!!! Friggin direct shipping BS!

I need to find a way to create a Free Trade Zone for wine in the MD/DC/VA area. I’ll bet my front sheet in Hades none of the local MD stores carries these wines. Now I’m distraught but I will persevere and find a way. 🙂

    Keep the faith baby!

I actually don’t think I’ve ever had one. I’ve had Algerian and Syrian, but not Israeli. Manischewitz is not Israeli, and I unfortunately have had lots of that. Who knows when I’ll have one. Hopefully soon. Maybe Gary will bring me along to Israel just to hear my Jackie Mason impersonations.

Big ups to winemakers that are under the radar. I’ve never had a wine from Israel. I did have wines from Lebanon from the Bekaa valley (?) A little light but I should try more… Cheers!

QOTD – I know I have had at least one Isreali wine, but I can’t even remember the grape varietal. But I obviously need to try one again, if I can find one.

QOTDs: 1. Never had one. 2. On the Thunder Cruise?

  • Hey Gary !!

Very glad you presented a nice non kosher Israeli wine selection. I am Israeli, sommelier and an everyday vayniak watcher of your thunder shows. The Israeli wine I had been stunned with was Domaine du Castel Grand Vin 2000, a remarkable wine to me.
If you need a guide for your next Israel wine trail, I am your man !
