I’m really impressed that he doesn’t have a chard by the glass on there. Good for him.

QOTD: I’ll agree with many that Argentine Torrontes is coming on strong. An interesting varietal and good QPR… a good combination.

Love this format. I agree that some tasting would be nice to see, but would prefer you keep it real and let the restaurant initiate that. The handheld action is fine as long as the duration stays short.

I think this location was easy since the list was obviously good. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes when the venue misses the mark. Finally, it’d be nice to see a discussion regarding corkage and their philosophy. This is an area of the wine world that needs changing in most restaurants.

GV: Great show, interesting to see a pro’s take on a wine list!

  • Interesting subject, but not sure if I would watch every episode. Out here in SoCal, we tend to bring our own wine to dinner and pay the corkage.

Good show idea even though I have no plans to be
in NYC… ever. Still like wine conversation.
Shaky camera is a little hard to take.

    QOTD: Albarino

I’m a little dizzy, but this was fun. I wish you had tasted the wines you selected? AMM

Interesting show, it would have been nice to see what the prices of the wines were. I diverse list is great but if everything is 2+ times retail, then you feel a little ripped off.

Ack. Please let’s keep these kind of features to a minimum. I really don’t need to hear someone read the wine list at a restaurant I’ll never visit. I get what you’re trying to do, Gary, but it’s just not the reason I watch the episodes. And the Flips are cool, but for God’s (and your audience’s sake), make sure you keep a mini tripod handy so we don’t yak.

Gary! We need to see the list and prices! Maybe next you a wine list show, you scan the list ahead of time so we can see it too. Or! Maybe link onto their list if you can’t scan. Was fun to listen to you gab on about the wines.

  • This episode was so riveting that I almost missed my subway stop, which isn’t an easy thing to do in Los Angeles.

Long time since watching and making a comment, but I would have to say Torrentes especially from Uraguay would be my answer to new popular white varietal. Really exciting I had the opportunity to try the ’08 Pisano Torrontes after meeting with the vineyard manager. Awesome stuff jump on board the Torrontes train Vayniacs.

I wish there were more restaurants with interesting lists such as theirs.

QOTD: Although it’s nothing new….I can’t wait until people out here (east coast…not NYC) realize the beauty of Chenin Blanc. I will also echo a couple of comments from earlier…I would like to see Hondarribi Zuri and Moschfilero become “hot”.

Liked the concept. Very educational. Jesse rocked. Knew his wines and
could explain just why they were on the list.

QOTD: Don’t know about “this” summer, but I think the Rhone whites –
roussane especially, are gonna start making waves.

This was a great show and a terrific new format! Seeing as you do get a chance to travel TONS it’ll be great to see you do these more often imo. I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to visit that place in the foreseeable future but it will still give me and perhaps others a great comparison tool for other wine lists. Keep up the creative thinking!!

QOTD: Rieslings, I think more and more people are discovering it’s not just the sweet german stuff and realize just how diverse it can be!

    Gary –

Very good show! I agree with those Vaniacs who wanted you to taste a few of the wines.
I have a Flip phone and they’re great for people and scene shots, with pretty darn good audio. Horrible for fine print (wine list text).
QOTD: I also agree with those Vaniacs who responded with Albarino! Because of you Gary, I had some Albarino a few months back and they rocked!

QOTD: Albariño! Or was that last summer? Still I enjoy it. Great show Gary and loved the back and forth between you both (though my heads whirling a bit from the camera work). Would love to see more shows like this.

    Gary,
Sorry to chime in with some negativity but I found the show to be pretty poorly conceived and executed. I couldn’t see the names of the wines on the list for a start, but also I felt that you didn’t offer much by way of ‘critical rigour’. Maybe that we because the Wine Director was there present, who knows, but you didn’t bring much direct analysis to the conversation. I think this type of episode needs more thinking through.
