Nice show. QOTD: Less of more expensive wine; Mary Ann. How about a show on wine asseccories, say various decanters and the differences between them, methods to preserve a half open bottle of red for a few days (vacu-vin, etc.) and so on.

PS: Not a fan of any type of dog that will sit in a bucket.

How awesome to finally see the episode in the stadium! I caught you on U-Stream right afterward and also saw some of Noah’s video prior to taping but was wondering exactly what you drank there. Now I know! I just visited Ferrante on the way home this week and totally agree about their ice wine (their restaurant was fabulous, too). Thanks for mixing it up, as you always do!

QOTD 1: How about quality wine ALL the time, sometimes pricey, sometimes screaming value?

QOTD 2: Scrap the women….it’s the Professor FTW! The geeks run the world!!!!!

  • I’m not digging the stadium, it seemed awkward standing and the lighting sucked. I dunno something seemed really awkward about the whole episode. But I liked the guest, Mary Anne (sp) you did a great job! Gary, let her talk a little more.

QOTD: I think this is a good question, I think we need more like these. The way I see it is that no matter how much I’m spending the probability that I will like the wine is the same. Until I know a little more about my own palate, I’m not going to risk $20 on a wine when I know I’m just as likely to like the $5 Malbec or Chenin Blanc. Plus, buying cheaper wine lets me taste more wine and hergo expanding my palette and getting to know what I like so I can read the reviews and maybe splurge on something that costs a little more.

  • Fun road show.

QOTD 1:Less often with better wine. I fall in the $15 – $50 category and will spend up to $100 for a very special occasion. Still like to find wines with good QPR. I don’t mind a high price if the wine really “Brings the Thunder”

QOTD 2: Mary Ann & Ginger.

  • Hey, Gary, I found some Arizona made wines that I am going to send to the show, but I need to wait until the temp drops below 1,000,000 degrees, probably Oct.

several points – GV, the cool climate of the Lake Erie AVA, while protective of the vines, does not, IMHO, make Ohio P.N. any more defendable. It is not. However, the wine of Wes Gerlosky at Harpersfield, which were somewhat slagged a bit by you in the past, are more often than not a delicious and remarkable paean to Alsatian and Burgundian styles and techniques. I once had a barrel sample of a Kerner he was making, and it smelled uniquely of Basil. I’ve been and ardent supporter of his for 20 years, now, since I waited tables in a fancy jazz place.
Also working against us Ohioans, is the control state status, with prices significantly higher than the national average. (Boo.)

QOTD – drink more wine of better quality and flavor, regardless of price. For example, if I were a cheapskate dog pounder, I might go for one of the Pumari wines from Robert Talbott. Family owned, (but purchased grapes), from a renowned producer of legendary proportion. But much better would be Three Legged Red from Eric Dunham winery in Walla Walla. A Tribute to his rescued dog Port, it was my fave $20 bottle for several years. Money no object, I’d go for Delectus’ Dog Gone Good Napa red@ $50. Browns fans take note. and to you, Gv, I say two things. Braylon Edwards, and Kellen Winslow.

QOTD — At this point, more wine, less $ per bottle. Most of what I drink is in the $10 range. I’ve come to like having wine with dinner, and without it something seems missing. Plus its fun to try a lot of different cheap wines and once in a while hit a decent one. Then again, I really haven’t drunk much expensive wine, so I may not know what I’m missing. It would be nice to be able to drink $15-25 wines on a regular basis, but that day is far in the future.

Man, I love the road trip shows, so much fun! QOTD: I’m cheap, but I guess I drink less of less expensive good wine (I know thats not an answer). I also drink whiskey and beer, so I keep it mixed up.

  • Right now, more wine at lower price points works for me.

    Gary!
I love rootbeer…I like it mixed with cream soda…the best! Sarsaparilla!!:)
    Easy melons? hahaha

QOTD: Its all about quality…whichever is better! Cheap wine thats good is awesome..but if its just a lot of bad grape juice..whats the point? Expensive wine..only if you really enjoy it..otherwise, save your money!!! Quality beats price point!

    Marianne with a hint of Ginger… 🙂

  • QOTD1: Everyday wine (less expensive; still a lot of quality stuff out there).
    QOTD2: Lovie.

QOTD: Both, but if I had to choose, more expensive (which I’m arbitrarily taking to mean higher quality – don’t hit; I know that’s not always true!…) less often.

    Oh, and, Mary Ann…….

  • Bill

    Fun show.

QOTD: Obviously, Mary Ann. Less expensive wine during the week, and more expensive wine on the weekends, to go with a nice Saturday night dinner. So, both. I guess expense is all relative, though.

  • Yvette W

QOTD: I’d rather drink less expensive wine more often because less expensive doesn’t always mean low value. Therefore, if I do this often enough, I’ll constantly be expanding my palette, finding and learning new things about different varieties of wine.

    MaryAnn.

    Another great show! Lovvvvvved it!

  • amgryger

QOTD: Good question. I actually got into wine when I lived in Rome and was all about inexpensive wine all the time, which carried over for a while when I returned to the states. However, lately I have found myself shifting towards a tendency to drink more expensive wine less often.

  • Matt W

QOTD Right now I am drinking more of the less expensive because I enjoy having wine nearly every night with dinner. However, I do occasionally buy some better wine but end up putting it in my cellar and forgetting about it. Perhaps one day I’ll go nuts and just drink all the great bottles at once that I’ve accumulated. Cheers!
