line of the day – ‘I get a hint of non-paved driveway’

Episode seemed a little rushed but still enjoyable although would have liked more time on the baseball cards

Very nice Ep Gary. Tried the Gaudou (Waiting for Gadot? :-)} Cahors based on Alec’s reco and it certainly is a lovely bottle rolling in at just 8 bones. QOTD: Most immediately I think of Americana – that they have been around for forty-plus years and their songs are like indelible images in sepia tones in a family album; classic like baseball and apple pie. We saw S&G in concert in NYC a couple years ago, and they were incredible. Too many favorite songs so I won’t bore you with a list.

How about instead of Raspberry spray, it’s Chambord spray? Technically it’s black raspberries and blackberries, but it is a raspberry flavored liquor.

QOTD: It just reminds me of my parents – they used to tell me how great S&G were when I was 4 or 5 but I never really heard them. I have to say, after last nights repeats I agree with them.

Hey GV, I’m a relatively new vayniac – but from what I’ve seen, you’re killing it. You’ve mentioned in several episodes that varietal wines are only required to contain >75% of that grape. If I’m trying to explore new varietals, should I be looking for single varietal wines, or are blends better for certain grapes?

Hey GV, nice show; sometimes it’s nice to watch a show that’s all business. I’m going to try and find the Argentinian Malbec. QOTD: high school. I used to listen to their greatest hits album ALL the time! Four words: Bridge Over Troubled Water. Keep it real.

    Good episode.
QOTD: ‘Gay’ is the first thing that comes to mind. They’re good artists and all, but hearing them is like hearing someone rake their fingernails across a chalkboard. It’s painful. I think they’re a little bit pretensious too. Yeah, I’d rather be trapped in a room and forced to listen to .38 Special for 8 days straight, than to hear 1 S&G song.

  • QOTD: I think of soft melodic songs, kinda sad but they make you feel good none the less. I also think of a cat I used to have named Garfunkle. That was his name at the shelter and we decided to keep it. Seemed to fit him.

Ballads with harmonies that give you chills with their poetic beauty. They are of course Icons from my generation….

The Black wines of Cahors should make a comeback after this episode. I have been bombarded with recommendations lately for 2006 Trumpeter Malbec from Mendoza by Rutini wines. I succumbed to curiousity and tried it and found it a little green and diluted for a Malbec. This bottle came in at $10 here in DC. I also picked up their Malbec/Syrah blend which is in a Burgundy/Cotes du Rhone shaped bottle for the same price and WOW! What a difference. I heartily recommend this blend and thanks to Kens wine review for mentioning it. Vintages in the Southern hemisphere are released first so the 2007’s share the shelves already. I prefer the 2006’s in the $10-$15 range but they are selling quickly and being replaced by the ’07’s. “Trust your palate.”

Eli and the Giants made as many miscues as my Sons of Washington did and as misery loves company isn’t it too bad about Romo’s pinky? I must say Chad is playing well down in Miami. Brett will keep the Jets in the hunt as your division is as unpredictable now as ours.

  • Good to see some malbecs! We had a Reininger Walla Walla Valley malbec last weekend, and it rocked. Gotta get a bottle of the Gaudou – that sounds right up my alley.

QOTD – Simon and Garfunkel? Bad hair and several nauseating songs, rather self-important and reaching for the grandiose…. not a fan, and I love a lot of the 60’s stuff. However, I really like a lot of Paul Simon’s later stuff. We have worn out his Concert In Central Park cd’s – love the Afro influences, the percussion, and the spirit of those discs.
