  • I love EPCOT. Went there many times when I was younger. I haven’t been in 15 years or so. Great episode as usual.

  • Wow I’ve never been this fast with a comment. Good show, taking the fam to Disney over xmas, should be fun. QOTD: Toasted Head Chard was pretty good if I remember correctly it was in that $10-$12 range.

I went to Epcot for the first time last year. I drank my way around the world, with beer. 😉 I’m discovering value Chardonnay’s again, used to like the J Lohr, but now I favor Four Vines Naked Chard.

Nice episode, enjoy the audience (so much quieter than the Wild WL crowd!)

Try the Red Bicyclette Chard, think 2005. Had it the other night, interested in your take. 10 bones at Target

On my way to Disney World next week. Great show, can’t wait to walk the wine and food festival.
Don’t really have a chard that we drink on a regular basis, to post about.

qotd: Recently I had a bottle of 2006 Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 White (a primarily Chardonnay blend). It should be widely available, and I thought it brought serious Thunder – esp for the price point. It has a lovely nose – pear, pineapple with nice acid, good texture and zippy finish.

Wildhurst is my go-to Cheap Chard. Nice minerality and balance for a CA Chard.

Kali-Hart is also good, but can get a little oaky…AMM

  • Ahhhh…. another plonk show! But what the heck… it is what the people asked for. I have had all of those wines, and I agree totally with Gary – they are serviceable, but I can find the same thing for less money. I would like to see this show done with wines up to $15! The difference between an $8 or $10 chard and a $13 to $15 chard can be huge.

QOTD – A few wines from the Library I would like to see, under $10, would be the Estancia, Deloach, and the Columbia Crest Grand Estates. If you want another one that would be nice to do, it would be Townshend Cellar 2006 Chardonnay, from the Columbia Valley. It is $10 retail and really brings a lot to the table…. plus, they are one mile from my home, so I can get it right from the source!

  • it’s a few dollars more, but the La Crema 2006 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is my go-to white for parties or for week nights – and it just got a pretty serious score from Parker – might be worth trying out for the Vayniacs!

If you want to go low end and easily avialable wines, why not go all out and do the ones that do seem to still sell: Paul Masson, Carolo Rossi, or even Livingston?

QOTD: I agree with Dewey and Cobalt — I hope you try a Toasted Head and La Crema in a future chard show, two of my favorites, because I like some butteriness in a chard. Butteriness? Watch, that one will be in the list of new words Webster puts out next year!

Thanks, Gary, for including us in your mission.

  • Still my favorite cheap Chardonnay on the planet:

    http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=39615

Although the ’04 was even better (had a few years on it, plus it was EIGHT freakin’ bucks).

And I had a Drouhin Chablis last week that I got for $16 locally, not bad at all.

But for that price I think I’d rather drink Argiolas Costamolino.

I see a little facial hair on Gary here. Lucky you for being at Epcot.

QOTD: Haven’t tried any interesting Chards under $10, actually not my type of wine.
