Are you crazy? I’m not gonna share my favorite little boutiquey small production super secret favorite with millions of you! Other than that, some very tasty ten-ish dollar Chards are Peirano Estate, Pumari (from Robt. Talbott), Gnangara(from Evans and Tate), Cartilage and Brown, Peter Lehmann, Excelsior (S. Afr.).But I hardly have time or interest to drink any of this stuff, visiting a bottle of one or two per year, though I’ve tasted them by the hundreds every year.

  • Gary, lovin’ the change of scenery…although that crowd needed to step up its game! 🙂

Nice episode Gary. I hope it is warmer in Orlando than it is here in the Windy City.

QOTD: Gary, why don’t you review Acacia chard – commonly available in my area (Northern VA). Good show, we could tell you were having fun at Disney. Did you realize you said you were going on a riesling “tant”? I think you meant rant. Is that a goatee I’m seeing? Pretty cool. Also, watch your use of the new common cliche “at the end of the day.” You used it about 6 or 7 times. When exactly is the end of the day? 5:30pm? 9pm? Midnight?

You know I’m just quibbling: I love your show.

  • I really don’t like all this cheap wine stuff, Gary! I don’t think any of it is available to anyone outside of America anyway! ; )
Don’t let recession and all that jazz ruin the thunder show!
    Let’s see some Mouton-Rothschild and RomanĂ©e-Conti! ; )
Actually I’d love to see some 5th growth Bordeaux and things like that at that price point which are widely available!

Despite the fact that all three wines sucked, I learned something. I learned not to buy these wines. Thanks Gary!

QOTD: From my own store, I would say, Yalumba, Holy Cow (From your excellent guest, Charles Smith), and maybe Castle Rock or Edna Valley.

Fun show, the audience seem to appreciate it. The scenery was pretty sweet too.

Good show, a “tant” about Riesling? Maybe a “rant.” That being said, it’s tough to find a halfway decent 10 bones or less Chard. I thought the J Lohr Reserve is pretty good.

QOTD: Whatever you do, make the next Chard show from three different regions. My fun choices are:

    1) Yargazy (Australia/Kosher?) #41835
    2) ’06 Andeluna (Argentina) #41416
    3) ’06 Pellegrino (NY) #40069

Of course, you could always review Fat Bastard (insert jokes here) or Little Penguin since you see those wines EVERYWHERE and I have yet to try either one.

Cheers and have fun in the Sunshine State.

Great backdrop to the show, it looked pretty cool!
I know what you mean about Riesling. Riesling from Alsace is my sea-food wine of choice ! Lemon and lime is perfect with Normandy oysters.

QOTD: can t really help on this one, I m not sure what you have available to you in America, -although I would like to see at least one old world style chardonnay-.

QOTD:Most wines tasted by Gary are unavailable here in QuĂ©bec, Canada. But that is OK. Most Chards here are at least 11$-12$ for the more ‘commercial’ stuff, which I, for some reason, tend to avoid. I love Chablis and other Burgundian Chards. Pricey, but rarely disappointing.

    Rock on!

QOTD: Can’t think of one that’s worth the bother. Although, I must say, that the one thing worse than a $10 boring Chardonnay is a $50 over oaked new world Chardonnay that tastes like liquid wood.

  • QOTD: Things I’ve seen that are under $10 and relatively common are Fat Bastard and Lindemans. How about Chilean bargain, the MontGras. I didn’t look but I bet Penfolds has a bargain Chard.

Should have had the Mouse as a tasting buddy… Would pay money to see the Mouse doing a “sniffy-sniff.”

Would have tried the Cycles Gladiator Chard or an unoaked one from Australia/New Zealand.

I don’t drink chardonnay because I fear the CA Oak Monster! Also, it’s usually overpriced in my opinion for what you get. I would much rather have a nice crisp Spanish white, or even most any sav. blanc with my seafood pairing.
    Smell it first!

QOTD; Try the Novellum Chardonnay 2007. For $11 at Winelibrary it’s a good QPR wine.

  • I was fortunate enough to be at this tasting and I must say it was a great experience. We got to meet Gary the day before the show when he came to sign our books after he thought his signing had been canceled. All it took was an email to GV saying that we had heard his signing had been canceled and he was there in 30 minutes to sign our books and take pictures with us. That really showed us how much of stand up guy Gary really is. After a foot race to get our seats for the show, Gary delivered a great live show and had a Q&A session afterward which was quite interesting. All in all, Gary made our weekend at the Food & Wine Festival an epic one and made us into fans for life, and also made a few new fans as well. For that, Thanks Gary! You brought the thunder! Oh and thanks for the wristband too!

Stepping out from the shadows of lurkers,
That “Lime In the Coconut” kinda guy…

  • Great episode! I love Epcot and Disney. You have to do a show some time at Paradise Island.

$10.00 Chard I want you to try:

Louis Latour Chardonnay, Borgogne Blanc. $7.99.

FYI, Just bought some Domaine Du Bouscat 2005 Bordeaux. Looking forward to it! Thanks again. Keep it going.

  • Hope you had fun in Epcot. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there.

QOTD: “A JETS inspired Chardonnay List” : I’ll give you 4 to try, 1. Hess Select 2006 (in memory of Leon), 2. Wishing Tree (because we are wishing hard for a JETS Superbowl this season), 3. Woop Woop 2007 (because we JETS fans are ready to WOOP WOOP it up every single Sunday), 4. SharpShooter (for none other than our man Favre). Thanks!
