QOTD: At first, the question would have been “when will I ever get to see this wonder woman you are married to” but since I have now met this wonderful lady (Jets game on your anniversary?) my question would be: “Have you thought about developing a “Free Trade Wine Zone” or some “legal” way of getting wines to archaic law abiding states such as Maryland? With your clout within the wine industry, there has to be a ground roots movement to change these laws. This would be taking the marketing and selling of wine to a new level.

QotD: Here’s my question: Can I have a free Thanksgiving pack? Haha. But seriously, can you explain the differences in taste between a barrel sample and wine in the bottle. I’ve heard that barrel samples are more luscious. Does that make it harder to identify the components/flavors, or is it like a color photo vs. a black and white one?

Gewurztraminer’s I’ve had tend to be too over-the-top for my liking…Alot of tropical, litchi, floral aspects that I, personally find over-bearing. I haven’t had many, however.

QOTD: What has inspired you, converted you to wine. How did you fall in love with it and what keeps you drinking it? (I guess that’s, 3 but hey…Maybe it is really but one question.)

Absolutely superb episode! I especially liked the way you successfully switched up the vocabulary required to properly describe these wines. Very valuable insight into the tasting skill needed for wildly different wines. Truly remarkable effort, GV. Kudos.

Let me add, for folks just tuning in, that it is extremely difficult to ‘switch gears’ when tasting from one very different wine to another. GV displayed a workman-like discipline, the product of years of focussed attention. This ep is a very fine example of his experience and talent. A ‘must view’ for aspiring tasters.
I don’t think he even knows how good a show it was!

I agree with KenP – if you don’t pay attention when going from one wine to a very different one, its easy to just swing and miss on it, so nice work on today’s episode.

QOTD: Gary, my question for you is quite important. I’ve been watching your show for almost a year now, and in a month I’ll be turning 21. My parents want to get me two bottles of a 1987 wine for my birthday. I watch the show, they do not. What direction should I steer them in? Keep in mind I will be both laying this down and drinking it in a month.

And speaking of turning 21 soon and watching your show for a year – a million thanks for a virtually free wine education!!

I liked the format because I think it would be fascinating to taste all of those wines from all over the world.
Moulin A Vent is SICK! I travel to France 2 or 3 times a year. Mostly west of Paris. I have a colleague in Chartres that loves the stuff and we usually find a wine with 10+ years of age that is pure magic.

QOTD – How do you balance a good professional life, a good family life, and a fanaticism for sports? I love sports myself, but I lost my fanaticism years ago because life is short and getting upset over a sports team loss seemed pointless.

I’ll have to try that last one.

What would be the one case of wine you would buy for an investment from 2005? Why haven’t you opened a shop in NYC? And what is your opinion of Marvin Shankin…?
