EP 575 A mixed bag of wine. Alsace, Beaujolais and the Rhone valley.

Gary Vaynerchuk tries 3 very interesting wines in a format he is far more accustomed to. The format you see today is reminiscent to the way Gary and many other wine buyers BUY wine for their establishments!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2006 Albrecht Gewurztraminer ReserveAlsace Gewurztraminer
St. Cosme St James Little Basket PressOther Rhone Red Wine
2005 Potel-aviron Moulin A Vent VvCru Beaujolais

QOTD: I’d love to know if there’s a website or any source that lets you enter a wine & find out where in your area it’s available. I’ve seen this on various producer’s or importer’s sites, but many don’t offer it, and there’s no single all in one place.

I think it would be great if you did a Q&A episode, or answered, say, one reader’s question per episode to share your knowledge!!

Fantastic mix-bag show- Way to give Moulin a Vent the respect it, and other Cru Boujolais the respect it (they) deserve.

QOTD: Most exciting up-and-coming wine region of the world, or most up-and coming varietal. For me:
    REGIONS:
    Vinsobres, Rhone, FR.
    Leyda Valley, Chile?
    Santa Lucia Highlands?

    VARIETALS:
    **Austrian St. Laurent
    Australian Verdelho
    Austrian Furmint (dry)

  • Great ep! Nice to see a serious Beaujolais on the Thunder Show.
I don’t drink them much anymore but I used to.
Moulin a Vent and Morgon are the two crus that are usually considered the most age-worthy in Beaujolais.
We had a magnum of ’89 Morgon in 1994 that was outstanding.

Great show Gary! The mixed bag was fun, especially with the “buyer’s” point of view on each bottle. I am on the Gwertz band wagon. Alsace has/is producing some great juice!

QOTD: I would ask, What was it like in Russia – What was it like starting in the USA with nothing but the clothes on your back and your family on your arm?
The human condition is so fascinating! Please tell some stories on the Cruise!

QOTD – for you – I have often thought about getting into the wine business, but have some concerns. I wouldn’t want to go into corporate wine brand management or regional sales/distribution. I also would want to stay in the greater NYC area. What would you recommend about this?
