EP 575 A mixed bag of wine. Alsace, Beaujolais and the Rhone valley.

Gary Vaynerchuk tries 3 very interesting wines in a format he is far more accustomed to. The format you see today is reminiscent to the way Gary and many other wine buyers BUY wine for their establishments!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2006 Albrecht Gewurztraminer ReserveAlsace Gewurztraminer
St. Cosme St James Little Basket PressOther Rhone Red Wine
2005 Potel-aviron Moulin A Vent VvCru Beaujolais

Unusual wines, but as usual… a good show

  • Brilliant episode, the format was awesome. I am not sure I could flip from wine to wine and still have the insight that Gary did – maybe one day.

Interesting factoids on the Gewurztraminer – 20 percent of all grapes planted in the Alsace? I wonder what started the trend? I have never heard the term “Rhone filed blend” nor the concept of the “solarum” style – pretty cool. I have never had anything but Beaujolais Nouveau so the last pick is a must-try for me – the “real Gamay” comment has me intrigued.

QOTD: When all this is said and done and you walk away from the wine world, what is the one thing you want to be remembered for? Any thoughts of a legacy, or do you take this day by day? Because if you don’t have a master plan, you’re fooling the hell out of everyone!

    Thanks, Gary. Great show.

  • Great show, I’ve been dipping into some Gewurtz from Anderson Valley lately as fall approaches…Lazy Creek, yum!

QOTD: If we could have a glass together, anywhere in the world, and of any wine, where would it be and what wine? Your call….

    Nice Show…

QOTD… If you could own any other business besides the Wine Library (and the Jets, of course), what would it be… or maybe not own any business at all…?

The flat peaches you tasted in the gevurtz are called donut peaches.
Bought the st. james basket press a few years ago at 8 or 9 bones. Enjoyable everyday wine.

QOTD: What wines are you having at Thanksgiving dinner?

  • The mixed bag format is comfortable… just like having a sales rep drop by the shop! I especially dig this for getting three (or more) different looks in wine, rather than trying to discern between similar bottles.

The St. Cosme sounds fantastic! My wife calls that aroma Fruit Poops…

QOTD: Would you like another beer?

    Hey Gary

Talking over a glass of wine (maybe on the Thunder Cruise), this would be my question:

When my wife and I have our own cooking show, would you be a guest on our show to talk about pairing wine with food?

If you say yes I’ll hold you to it 🙂

Do you still hand sell to customers when you get a chance? Enjoyed that format. Great perspective on how much you enjoyed the wine by showing how much you would buy for your store.

I think I have a good one for you:

QOTD: A lot of people are thinking that we’re about to make a turn around into a new era in the US. Given your age you’re likely to be starting a family of your own in a few years; what are some things you would like to see happen and change in this country to make it a place that you would be proud to raise your children in?

PS Thanks again for the 89-point wine sale. It’s good to know that you are always listening, even if you don’t always respond (just like Santa Claus).

    Question for you??
I love talking old sports while Im drinking wine with my brother and my dad…so I would probably ask you a sports Question.
    How about this…
Who is the greatest right-handed hitter of all-time?
    Rogers Hornsby?
