QOTD: none yet – wish I had much earlier.

  • Woody

    Pichon Baron
    Pipeau
    Agassac
    Clos Des Menuts

Mixing up a bit of right and left bank.

Great show. I am a lurker no more. I managed to find wine-library tv all by myself, but ahve since recommended it to all of my friends – wine lovers or not. I live in London, and am minutes away from stuffy wine-shops. It is so refreshing to find someone as passionate as you!

I think that everyone should just take a holiday, and drive to a wine region and meet these wonderful wine producers. I still love the first time I went to bordeaux and rocked up at this old house, and this old man showed me and a friend around his vinyard. He didn’t speak a word of english, and we didn’t speak any french, but we understood each other perfectly.

This is what wine is all about. Fact

Blind tastings are always so much fun…. as life should be!

QOTD: Chateau Tournefeuille (LaLande de Pomerol) and Chateau Lilian Ladouys (Saint-Estephe)… I preferred the righ-bank because I absolutely LOVE merlot and that earthiness

  • Always love the blind tasting shows. I wish I could be at the Fort Mason party. I have my WSET Diploma classes this weekend though. I’ll see if I can do a quick turn around.

Fun show, GaryV. It’s always great to see you get super excited by a wine.

Gary, you’re the man. You should have your own Masters of the Universe character….. Sniff-or. Maybe theChateau Couspaude should have a new name too ….Stinkor? Wait thats taken…how about poop-or? Have you ever had a wine with Stinkor on the nose? I’d buy that.

    Nice ’05’s:
    Ch. La Vielle Cure

So I just bought Chateau La Grange Clinet 2005 and the hubby and I are drinking it as I type this. Eric thinks there is not much to it, I think it’s juicy with lots of fruit and maybe some leather? I don’t really know what I’m talking about though, but I think it’s a nice medium quality wine. We bought it for $16.

QOTD I slightly missed the boat on 2000 Bdx and should have bought more futures of the 1995 vintage (altough in my defense I was at that time working part time at Wendy’s…) so this time around I went heavier than normal even if primeur prices where high. I ended up with some Brillette, Chasse-Spleen, Sociando-Mallet, Pontet-Canet, Malescot St-Exupery, Haut-Bailly, Haut-Brion, La Conseillante, La Fleur-Petrus, Malartic-Lagraviere, Bahans Haut-Brion, Chapelle d’Ausone, Pensees de Lafleur, Clos du Marquis and Climens.

The boat is full (wallet empty) and the mix is interesting which should cover anything from casual dinner to very special occasion type wine (especially the magnums!).

I got a case of a 3rd growth margaux Ferriere that Decanter magazine gave 5 stars to, it is normally not very good but I guess it was a good vintage for margaux.
Also 2 bottles lanesson, 2 alter ego de palmer,1x leoville barton,1x haut bages liberal,1 bahans haut brion.
Have just drunk 2 half bottles of carmes de rieussec 05 and these 2nd wines of great Sauternes houses seem to be good value for early drinking.
Overall i think the wines are grotesquely overpriced eg $NZ150 for leoville barton .

4 bottles of Les Secret du Cardinale (I’m a sucker — but I opeend one and I really liked it) and 3 bottles of Clos du Marquis (Leoville Las Casas, 2nd wine)…should arrive any day now…

Interesting epidose. DMaybe doing an ’05 tasting every 6 months or so — with at least one wine — to see the evolution
