Iv bin to pagesprings a few times but only because of tool apc and puscifer. I did buy the 04 sensei witch I thought was way overpriced but would make a grate collectors item even tho I would never sell it.
Now the wine I did drink. i had two bottols of the 05 Chupacabra one of the 05 Naga and one of the 05 Sensei.sorry to say I injoyed the Chupacabra over the other more expencive wines but then I wouldent even concider my self a noveswin drinker. Nor would I call my self a educate’d man but thay were all drank in grate company. I think that means more then the coast or the ranking of the wine.

Great show Gary. I had heard from you that some interesting wines were coming out of Arizona, but when I visited Sedona a month ago, I was very surprised that every restaurant I visited did not offer a single Arizonian wine on their menu. I’ll definitely seek out a winery on my next visit.

QOTD – does Maynard mean an African or European swallow?

A great show. I am happy to see Arizona wines being represented on the national level. I was born and raised in Prescott, AZ and I now live and make wine in Oregon. Every time I go back home I try to taste around as much as I can. I have had many wines from Page Spring Cellars and some of the Merkin and Caduceus wines as well. The Malvasia is great! A word of advise for the people of AZ, stop building golf courses and start planting (more) vines!!

Gary, lay off the coke/coffee/whatever you are on. If you are not on anything, maybe try some relaxation techniques before interviews.
It was PAINFUL to try to watch Maynard and Eric try to speak and get cut off and shouted over the majority of the time.

Interesting show …. not sure what else to say. Interesting to read the pro & con Maynard comments. I dont have a strong feeling either way, but it was interesting to see that many of the posters did. I am waaaaay late watching this. Was out traveling when episode was released – only found out about it now when my son who is a much bigger Tool fan than I caught wind of it. I do like the idea of guests on the show – they are almost always the best shows.

Maynard & Eric – best of luck on your project – what is clear to me is your heart is in it !

Possibly my favorite show! I, along with my band (click my name to check us out if you like Tool), worship on the altar of Tool!!!!! I have been trying to get a hold of some Caduceus wine, but it is apparently illegal to have it shipped to NJ :(. Can’t wait to see how Maynard and Eric do in bringing quality Arizona wines to the public’s attention.

Awesome series, I’ve really loved some of the wine maker shows, especially those who are doing things new and hare passionate

Just so happened that I was going to be in Phoenix for New Years. Upon seeing this show I implored by buddies that we take a trip up to McCain-ville and visit Page Springs cellars. Unfortunately they weren’t tasting any Caduceus and only one Merkin, but many of the Page Springs were decent efforts and one AZ Stronghold chard really caught my attention.

Came home with a Caduceus Primer Paso that I look forward to opening and an Page Springs Gevurz that I was really pleased with.

Go visit the vineyard- very nice people and a gorgeous drive to get there.

we visited this winery last week on the way back to Phoenix from Sedona. We chose it at random from the three that my friend had on a list. We somehow missed watching these two eps on Page Springs–I wonder how it would have influenced our visit. We didn’t realize that Gary had been there until we saw a newspaper cutout on the bulletin board next to the bathroom.

Anyway, we didn’t have the same fantastic visit that Gary appeared to have. The tastings were fairly expensive–$10 a flight for a not very generous pour, administered by a not very enthusiastic employee. So, we didn’t risk an additional $10 to try the whites, which sounded intriguing but are not our preferred drink.

The reds we tasted weren’t bad–of course, I’m assuming that most of what we were tasting was from California grapes. The employee wasn’t very informative, but she told us the grapes were both Arizona and California, wouldn’t go into much detail. The prices were very high. Maybe the whites were $20, but all of the reds were $27 – $29.

We were going to get another glass of our favorite and sit out on the balcony to enjoy it–and maybe contemplate buying a bottle (overpriced, but we were willing to buy a bottle and support them). However, if we bought a glass of wine (overpriced), they would serve it in the same tasting glass. I don’t even like tasting wine in one of those tiny glasses. They had some decent sized glasses, but they were only for “members.”

Well, I guess if we lived in Phoenix, and Page Springs was our best option, we might be members. And we might be able to taste something interesting in a decent sized glass. But meanwhile, we’ll just have to go back to drinking our $8 to $20 wines from all over the world that we buy at Wine Library.

It was an interesting experience visiting Page Springs, but watching the ep, we don’t see how you could have been visiting the same place.

Fantastic show. Pretty damn cool to see Maynard to a 180 and basically want to do nothing but wine. Same goes for Eric, too. I wish we could get their wines here ( maybe? ), and I wish them success now and in the future. QOTD: King Arthur: What, African or European? Keeper of the Bridge of Death: I dont know that….wahhhhHHHH!!!!!!! ( I could do that all day )

I’m a Chicago transplant in Tucson, Arizona and I appreciate the work these small wineries are doing here in AZ – one of the few things going right in this state.

I’m glad during this second half here Maynard woke up and finished being nervous… Kind of strange to see a guy who performs in front of ginormous crowds struggle to hold his composure in the first half.

I think, however, Vay-ner-chuk’s personality would overshadow many peoples’ – even rock stars.

Loved watching these two episodes. I was able to get signed bottles from Maynard and Eric, at the Denver Whole Foods signing. The Malvasia was probably my favorite, but because I like reds more than whites, I only puchased one bottle. My loss I guess. I do have one question, though, to Maynard’s question…What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Having read most of the comments above. I’m trying to determine my feelings on the show. ( 1 and 2 ). I’ll start by saying i liked the insight of Eric and Maynards ideas of the wines presented. I am interested in trying a few of the food wines. I to love food. Having said that, Eric!, you are very knowledgeable when it comes to the chemistry of all aspects of wine conjuring. So your words were what i paid more attention to. ummm to cut it short. i liked the interview but the lack of info due to the host having ALOT to say. oh and Eric sorry for the tripple post on the AZ stronghold ( on the road blog ).

Steve, you have never heard of Maynard (not surprising) He isn’t arrogant, you douche, just because someone is quite and confidant doesn’t mean they are arrogant. You’ll come to find that people will listen harder and are more focused on someone who whispers and not on someone who yells.

Another example of the greatest artist on the planet and the majority of western world don’t even know him but they sure know Brittney Spears. Why do you think that is…..because she is talented?!?! I could say more but only about 1/3 of people will get it. So I’ll leave but saying I think that’s fantastic that you made a wine in honor of you mother, and I live in Canada but I really want to buy a few bottles and plan on making a trip to fly out to see your winery congratulations and best of luck in your futures. Fun. I’m a little late on watching this one, but glad I did.

Very cool episodes with Maynard & Eric! I am a huge Tool and Maynard James Keenan fan and it is great to see this side of him 🙂 It is terrific he and Eric are bringing Arizona wines to the public. They are obviously very passionate about the wines, and Eric seems very knowledgeable on all aspects of winemaking.
I definitely am interested in trying some, especially the reds.

African or European? LOL!!!!

As a serious wine collector and one who really enjoys sharing a bottle (or several with family and friends)I really liked the shows with Maynard!! My youngest daughter is a huge “Tool” fan and first told me about the wines. So, for her 21st birthday I presented her with a few bottles of Caduceus! I admit I was unaware of their existence until this revelation. She also sent me the website so I could view the shows as I had not viewed them before. Thanks for the enjoyable episodes and I am sure I will be striving to purchase several of the wines…and not only for my daughter, but for myself as well!!! I would like to make one note: The glasses you used tasting the wines appeared to be Riedel Sommelier Pinot Noirs. I strongly suggest you use the proper Riedel glasses for the wines you taste!! It truly makes a difference! Cheers!
