  • QOTD: I’m not exactly sure what the question was. I suppose I could mention I love using pimenton the Spanish smoked paprika was an ingredient. Is that close to what she was asking?

Great guest! That was a lot of two-part fun. Thank you, Ingrid & Gary.

Wow! That was painful for me to watch!

I can’t get over what to me comes across as a “fake” or “nervous” laugh. Not real. I can’t help but calling it as I see it. πŸ™

    Hi Gary !

That was a cool show. Ingrid has such a bubbly personality.

QOTD: I like salsa (the sauce, not the dance… actually… I have nothing against the dance either)

PS: thanks for answering my e mail Gary !

There was SO much wrong about this episode, that I didn’t know whether to shit or go blind. But by the time of Juan Gill (Jorge Ordonez, again!!!)(moan-AHH-stral), licorice, and her inspection of the cilantro/soap gene conundrum, Ingrid had won my heart.

Years ago, I, too, initially identified cilantro with a vaguely reminiscent memory of 60’s soaps – maybe 20 Mule Team, or old Ivory. But now soaps are chemicalized and over perfumed to obscure that essence. (Initiallty, I found that cilantro soapiness odd, but intriguing. As a future foodie, I easily grew to love it.)

In the end, this episode was great, as Ingrid came on really strong for the last 15 minutes, and you both apparently had a great deal of fun doing it.

I think I understand your ‘question’ to be: What would you (I?) match with Pimenta Malaguetas, the tiny, firey hot, but highly flavorfull chili pepper that is ubiquitous to Brasilian Cookery?

This is my first post here. I really enjoyed this (two-part) episode.

Ingrid was just wonderful, a great spirit. I am going to try her recipes–authentic but simple. Like her, I love great food, and I hope you continue to explore food pairings with your wines. I suggest that you make food recommendations to go with your secret packs, then taste food and wine with your Vayniacks!

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Great show Gary, it was a nice change of pace. Being a novice wine drinker myself, I loved the fact the Ingrid wasn’t to proud to asked lots of questions. I could listen to her Spanish accent all day long!

Interesting show Gary. Based on the low number of comments, possibly many did not like the episodes.

I could see what everyuone else was saying – from the good (jovial approaches, the fun you guys were having) to the innuendos. It’s really how you viewed the episodes.

While I enjoy the more geeky wine types (like Ordonez and Robinson), this was an o.k. change of pace (note: I had never seen her show on the Food Network so I wasn’t what sure to expect).

Thanks, Gary. I’m a long time wine drinker but until very recently when I started watching your show, not very discriminating. But while watching you and Ingrid, especially Ingrid, I was drinking a Saumur Cabernet-Franc (I think) and the coupling was perfect. πŸ˜‰

Enjoyed the second half much better than the first. Nice job.

Ingrid actually asked a decent question re-wines best for aging.

More silly wine and food fun.

Is it just me, or did she not actually taste the cheese between smelling licorice and not?

QOTD: I actually haven’t done much latin cooking– something to look into!

Ohhh how I loved Ingrid appearing on your show. She has a German name but seems to be more like hot chilli. I wouldn’t mind to date her.

QOTD: I love making (and eating) tostones (fried plantains). Also whole roasted (cuban style) pork es muy delicisoso – pair it up Gary!

Good set of shows, and it’s fun to see you get back into pairings once and a while (a couple days ago with candy bars), esp the unusual ones. And it’s always fun to see the guest get a lil bit buzzed on the show.

Fun show (both parts) guys! Ingrid was another excellent guest with tons of personality – I loved the shameless plugs at the end of the show.

QOTD: How about goat, plantains and yucca.

  • Awesome guest!

This may seem like the stereotypical question in response to QOTD, but what about your (I know it’s crappy and Americanized) run-of-the-mill “Mexican”?

  • I loved the chemistry between you two…like watching friends enjoying talking about each other’s passions.

So cute, she sniffs, sips and comes up with some new aromas and flavors. Lots of laughs to the point of nearly spurting wine out her nose, covering her mouth… priceless.

Wish you had this much time with Conan, Ellen and Harry.

I now know why I do not like cilantro, it’s in my genes!

    QOTD: Love the plugs, Ingrid.

  • i couldnt get through the first half of part 1. i found her voice to be so grating in a weird way. her dialect is just so odd and offputting, i cant believe she’s on tv. it looked like you two were having a lot of fun, but it was so tedious to watch. i wanted to hear your thoughts on the wine but instead i just watched gary and girl flirting and being silly for what seemed like an eternity. terrible episode. please keep the non-wine people off the show and if youre going to give us anymore guests make them critics and the like (jancis was amazing).
