line of the day – it was going to be – ‘In its day this was the Cindy Lauper of Chardonnay’ but then along came ‘Mott, what if you go straight down on me’

Very good episode featuring good wines. Gary’s good mood is infectious…the more he enjoys himself, the more I enjoy myself.

  • QOTD: probably some Premier and Grand Cru Burgundies, especially from Puligny-Montrachet. But I rarely -if ever- have these anymore. I’m a big fan of California Chardonnays, esp the well-balanced ones. Many memorable dinners with Sonoma chards and also Central Coast/Santa Barbara bottles.

First I would like to say, I am loving the show. I have just started to catch them, and now I have a huge back log to get though. I work in a wine shop in Belfast Northern Ireland, and I am a little sad that I can’t get alot of the wines you showcase, but C’est la vie. Have you ever thought about doing a showcase on Lebanese wines, Loving them at the mo. well keep up the good work, lots of love from the green island.

QOTD- loving the Girardin Meursault Vielles Vignes 05

  • Yuw, G. Looks like you reloaded on vacation.
QOTD: definitely the Montrachets/Meursaults from Henri Germain or the Chablis from Ravenau. Well, maybe also some Jura-Chardonnays (a region you definitely need to explore), like the old Chards of Camille Loye (I still have some of his Chard coming from a vineyard plot that’s uprooted and covered with a nice, large block of appartements: 1983, 1987, 1989 and still going fabulously!).

  • Very strong show. I wonder how many listeners understood the reference to or have played “Pit Fall”. I would be one.

QOTB, The most recent Chardonnay that really impressed me was Hanzell 2005 Sonoma Valley Chardonnay.

  • QOTD: In high school I dated the son of a big chard producer, if anyone remembers Patz&Hall. (I grew up in Napa). His parents would bring over $100 wine over to our house. At the time I didn’t like wine much (well not my Dad’s zins) but I thought their wine tasted like butterscotch. It was delicious. Needless to say my parents were very sad when we broke up.

Great show on Chardonnay! Thanks. My favorite of all time has to be a Rochioli single vineyard. 2005 Rachael’s Vineyard.

Great show. Some very laughable Vaynerisms at the end. Also, did you find out the sex of the baby?! There was some hesitation after the word baby, and it looked like a g sound was about to come out, and then “on the way” came out instead. Regardless, I’m glad you are in such high spirits and life is so good for you!

I love that you got quince on the first 2. I’ve been eating a lot of quince paste lately and I actually know exactly what you mean (although what the hell does mulberry taste like???)

QOTD: I’ve had “premium” chard in Napa, and liked Frank Family and Rombauer for their over-the-top butter ML treated chards. But I really wish you wouldn’t call this stuff “premium”, it puts out a misconception that b.c of the hype they are better wines. IMO, I’ve found amazing chard at Trader Joes for 10 bones.

Terrific episode! Oddly comforting to have a show about Chardonnay. Good to remember that palette expansion refers as well to those wines we think we all know.

    QOTD: I have no idea.

qotd: my favorites have been two Grand Cru Burgundies, but I don’t remember what they were specifically. I know one was an ’04 Chablis and the other was from the Cote D’Or. Beyond Burgundy, my favorite has probably been the 2003 Leeuwin Artist Series Chardonnay.

I’m a HUGE fan of Chardonnay… Love Australian Chards… and I like a nice gently oaked Chardonnay!

Funniest part of the Clips is when Gary says “I’ve got some Nuts in mouth and thats OK!”

Hmmm… pretty funny. Good Show Gary!

    My idea for a show.
I will most likely never get to your store.
I want to see you walk into your local Kroger store
and pull 3 or 4 cabs from the middle shelf and taste them.
THAT would simulate the buying experience that is most
    like the one I have.

Have not ventured on to Cru Chardonnay. I went for a taste tour of France with Chablis and white burgundy but with value driven wines. I have had both the ’05 and ’06 Dehlinger Chardonnay and I enjoyed both of them. Dehlingers pinots are well made too.

  • QOTD: I had a Scarborough from Australia once that I really loved. It was a ’95 so that tells you it’s been a while. I had an HDV Chard recently that wasn’t bad.
