line of the day – it was going to be – ‘In its day this was the Cindy Lauper of Chardonnay’ but then along came ‘Mott, what if you go straight down on me’

Very good episode featuring good wines. Gary’s good mood is infectious…the more he enjoys himself, the more I enjoy myself.

  • QOTD: I have to say Latour, hands down. After that, Marques De Casa Concha.

Nice to see these get a rotation on the show.

  • Hey Gary,

Yep, love the M3. It’s really led to a bit of a quiet revolution in Australian Chardonnay. In days gone by everything thing had as much oak thrown at it as possible. Now everyone who is smart is following Shaw & Smith’s lead and doing less than 12 months of oak and getting much better results.

    Danny

PS. Best Chardonnay – Leeuwin Estate Art Series. Current vintage is an absolute cracker!

Baby Guh….On the way! haha! Almost had a little slip up? Great show! Keep them up. I look forward each day after work to watching the new episode.

QOTD: 2002 Kistler Dutton Ranch. Amazing tropical fruit buttery goodness!

will be tuned in on Saturday. Last interview with Scott Simon was great.
QOTD: still hard to beat a quality made chardonnay from Burgundy.

You and Mott need to get a room after this one!

great show, not really up to 30-60 bones for Chardonnay and I think this proves that I will survive just fine without it. I’d rather have Four Vines Naked or some Albarino and a quarter of the price.

Gary, Just watched your show as always, I love your energy! I watch your show for three different reasons
    1. I want to be able to articulate better what I taste and feel while enjoying wines.
    2. I know you try wines I want to go in search of.
    3. You are by far the most entertaining person to watch, your ability to go from one subject to the next kills me.

Thanks..I am on my way to find some M3 now

    Keep up the great work!

Good episode, love the knowledge you share.

QOTD – I am still at the point of enjoying entry level wines and trying so many new ones, but I prefer the unoaked style of Chardonnay. One that stands out, for me, is “The Wishing Tree” a Western Australian offering.

QOTD: The best chardonnay I’ve ever had was the 1992 Ferrari-Carano. Haven’t had a better vintage since, and haven’t had any other brand that beats it.

I am a big fan of Australian Chardonnays. My favorite is Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay. It’s not easy to find this in the states. I wish Wine Library will try to bring this wine in.

Great to see you back in the Thunder Saddle! I haven’t had many Chardonnay wines before, so this was very informative and helpful. Will have to check out the M3 and broaden the palate a bit. Glad everything is going well!

QOTD: Not a huge Chard fan, but it would definitely be the 2006 Domaine de la Cadette Bourgogne Vézelay La Châtelaine- it almost reminded me of a Sauvignon Blanc with its lack of oak and great acidity.

    Awesome show!

QOTD – I really enjoy Plumpjack’s Chards. I was especially fond of the ’05 vintage. It had this fun banana thing going on!

  • I liked the line up with the surprise finish… depending on ones palate.
Hey GV, you touched on an interesting topic and didn’t know it. Back blending!
You should have tried a few different combo’s of the Dehlinger and the Latour and see if you created the perfect cuvee!
Give it a shot, maybe an episode to it. Very interesting, don’t you think.

    Cheers from a Canadian Fan!

QOTD: About 25 years ago when I graduated from college I was given a bottle of
Louis Jadot Chevallier-Montrachet 1964 and it was fantastic.

QOTD: Chateau St. Jean Reserve Chardonnay. I went for a job interview at the National Cancer Institute (post-doctoral fellowship) and my wife had the bottle along with a home-prepared italian dinner and tiramasu waiting at home when I flew back. Wonderful wine. In fact, this wine I credit with opening my eyes to whites. Always thought red was where it was, but after watching lots of you (with a little bit of me) I was astounded with what chardonnays have to offer.

Also, recently had a honig savignon blanc that turned into pineapples within about twenty minutes in my glass. I thought I was drinking pineapple juice – just not with all the puckering sugar. Wonderful wine.

Love the show, great job and congratulations on a little you. If it’s a boy, good luck and if it’s a girl, get a gun.

PS I’m gonna ask for a shout out when I get my PhD later this year!!!

I like it when you do Australian wines as there’s a much greater chance I’ll have drunk it… I like the 2007 M3 and bought a bottle of it at tasting, but I bought two bottles of their Adelaide Hills shiraz (cooler climate than Barossa or McLaren) which is spectacular. Give it a shot.

    QOTD: Blain-Gagnard Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2005
