line of the day – it was going to be – ‘In its day this was the Cindy Lauper of Chardonnay’ but then along came ‘Mott, what if you go straight down on me’

Very good episode featuring good wines. Gary’s good mood is infectious…the more he enjoys himself, the more I enjoy myself.

    nice show.
note, i like white burgs but i have to say, there have not been a ton i luuuuved, the thing about them, they are drunk too young and they taste like chard and not mersault, puligny ….. it takes some time to develope that personality

qotd- probabaly a mersault was the one that did it for me. it went so well with baby duck done in a clay pot w/ lemon and olives. it was amazing

    First Post…
QOTD: I wouldn’t call it premium but the most memorable Chard I’ve had of late was the 2006 Novellum Languedoc France.

Thanks, its always nice to see the wine choice go to the ‘newer worlds’.

The first shot of the unfiltered wine clearly showed slight milkiness to the wine and the side-by-side showed the excellent color and clarity of the French entry.

    Awesome show!
I may be biased but it’s good to see an aussie wine showing so well!

Love this format but would like to see you do these blind and see if you can pick which area the wine comes from.

QOTD: Um, none? I’ve had a few Batard Montrachets, Ramey’s chards, some other white burgundies…all left me saying “meh, I’d rather have a crisp sauv blanc or a top Spatlese.” Pinot noir goes with most any dish that a chard will.

  • Yes, you/we are changing the wine world. Fantabulous show and am sorry I am one of those “closet Chard lovers” esp the higher ends one like Shaw Smith. I just hope you don’t sell out to quickly.

You do realize you told us the sex of your new arrival? Again, congrats. You will spoil her to death.

QOTD: When visiting Napa about 5-6 years ago, I fell in love with Girard and Grgich Hills but recently I just adore Devil’s Lair (Australia) and the Koehler you reviewed in your book. Both are absolutely a joy to drink and enjoy.

I thought I could get away from joining Facebook but now you have forced me into it. Darn

    Cheers!

Glad to have you back Gary and the happy bunch!

It’s nice to hear you have a lot of nice things taking place.

QOTD: Call me “old school”, but I tend to enjoy whites more in the summer. The last interesting Chard I’ve enjoyed was a Chablis Les Champs Royaux William Fèvre 2007. I’ve appreciated it with a mango chicken recipe I concocted. It paired well with the tropical play. One of my favorite whites recently has been the Gran Guardia Montresor Lugana 2005.

Tommorrow, I’m going red Bordeaux with a Château Latour-Martillac Pessac-Léognan grand cru classé 2005, thanks to your tasting advice on the 2004. Looking forward to the week-end with a grand tasting.

    Cheers to all y’all!

qod…..Forgeron from WA state, around 25 bucks was damn delightful a year or two ago. Very good fruit and a whisp of oak. Great balance.

No answer to QOTD. I have never had a premium chard; but maybe I will.

    Love the show

    Keep up the good work

As with most Burgundy questions, Dom. Leroy is definately the best Chard I’ve had. I think that she makes both a Puligny as well as a Chassagne. I do like Ramey out of Cali too, as long as the oak is reasonable.

QOTD: Back in the late 80’s, early 90’s Pine Ridge “Knollside Cuvee” was extraordinary. Went to the winery circa 2000 to buy some more only to be told that Pine Ridge had sold the vinyard because a sub-developement had bought the land next door and were complaining about the pesticide spraying so much that it didn’t make sense to keep the vineyard. About the same as a bunch of people buying houses for 40% less than market in the airport path and then complaining about the noise. So, the best Chardonnay ever ceases to be! DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the throw-downs!! Am also becoming a big, big fan of Australian and South African chards. Don’t have facebook, but look forward to what the people here have to whip up. Personally, I’d go Pinot: Cali, Oregon, Burg., & New Zealand.

QOTD: The first that comes to mind is a Patz & Hall Chard. It was certainly a wine at a different level from most. Even *highly sought after* wines.

Throwdown with GV. Like the show, and like that we’re showing that press scores are only worth so much. A classic as far as sticking to your mantras go.

QOTD: Never ever (for ever ever?), had a ‘premium’ chard. Too much CKC in me…
