line of the day – ‘I feel like I just bit an engine and I’m not happy about it’

As usual I’m blown away by the blind tastings. This is what Winelibrary TV is all about and it’s even more fun when Gary gets surprised by a wine that stinks, such as the Burgundy on offer here. Great stuff

    QOTD1: Sucrets?
    QOTD2: Love Chilean wines
QOTD3: Love the blind tastings too.
And I also love Pinot Noir, Hollywood didn’t tell me to love it though! I liked it before.

Great show. Recently I had a Santa Ema Reserve merlot (can’t recall the year) that turned into raspberry pie a la mode after being vacuum sealed overnight, which was really delicious. I’m focused on $8-$10 bottles, so I’ve found that there are some nice values from Chile.

Enjoy the blind tastings the very most!

If people have not tryed this at home; you need to have a group for dinner.
Everyone bring a bottle in a bag.

You will find out how very difficult it is to choose a score.

Ponzi from Oregon our favorite Pinot !

    Fantastic !!

I’ve been to Mt. Difficulty. Big fan, although, 2006 isn’t my favorite vintage from them (but still good!).

QOTD: 2004 Viña Chocalán Gran Reserva

    Pretty impressive blind assessment Gary!

QOTD: I have had many Chilean wines, and I love them for the value. I am also a big fan of pinot noir. However, I have not yet tasted a Chilean pinot noir! I will have to search for the Amayna pinot noir. I hope someone has it here in Hawaii–we tend to be deprived.

That flashback to Gary predicting Chilean Pinot in 2009 was awesome!! Very, very good show, wonderful way to start my day. Thanks for the show!
QOTD: Oddly enough… a Pinot Noir! The Terra Andina 2006. I was however, drinking it in the back of a car parked next to a river, in the middle of a snowy day, with a hunk a delicious cheese, with my wife, so of course it was magical!

I do like the blind format, especially now that the “tags” tell me what the wines are as you pour them. Thanks, Chris! It’s nice to see people’s requests being honored; I know you’ll get to mine someday.
qotd: Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta (I forget the vintage)

I think you’re thinking of Luden’s cough drops. My girlfriend often picks this up in red wines.

I love the blind tasting format!
QOTD: Vinedo Chadwick 2001 from the Maipo. Ridiculous little wine. Still one of my faves that I buy every year, though the price is starting to be a bummer.

I love the blind tastings! Great job GV.
Thanks for the hints to hit up Chile and South Africa, over the years . I’ve had some really good wines from there, reds and Whites!

Great show, but did you have to blow up the mailing list for Sojourn? I fell in love with them a few months back, and was hoping to score the Sonoma Coast Pinot for a new restaurant! So much for any availability. But the Vayner Nation shall not be stopped.

Shocking how bad the Jadot was – do you think you had a bad bottle? It seemed to have the right notes for St. George, btu maybe it got cooked or something?

  • Oh what a great episode. I loved the old episode thrown in there. Young Gary is so uncool compared to new Gary. I’m so glad that Mott remembered seeing you say that Chilean Pinot was going to be hot in 09. Mott is the man.

Interesting how reviews can be all over the board, he hated the Loouis Jadot but raved about the Sojourn. The Sojourn was reviewed by WS and gave it a score of 80, reporting little fruit. As GV would say, trust your own palate

QOTD: Wish I could remember the last Chilean wine I had, let alone the best ever. LOVE teh blind tasting format – keeps things honest and interesting.

Already on the Sojourn mailing list 😉 – that place rocks. May I also recommend Halleck as another great Cali pinot producer to the Vayniac pinot lovers?

Why is it that the first few people to post on this forum are all trying to make the first post? How old are they, 13 years old? And if so, why are they interested in $30+ wine? It’s a pain the butt to find useful comments between the inane posts by morons.

This was a cool show, very interesting GV hated the Jadot PN since he’s typically all over the Old World wines. I guess this wine really was just bad.
