phrase of the day – ‘Thunder Rack’

Love the fact that Gary is still pushing the boundaries and being inventive. He films this episode in his hotel room (the camera is high quality by the way….watch out Mott) and is as engaging as usual

Love it, love it, love it…

QOTD: I never drink anything out of the mini-bar. The first thing that we do when we get to a destination is hit a convenience store and grab a six pack of whatever. We usually are trying to keep the hotel bill as small as possible…

Gary: Was watching this and introduced my 12 year old son to you and then made him watch an archive of you (Do What You Love). . If your enthusiasm and passion can rub off on him a little, that will be a great thing. Keep doing what you’re doing. Liz

qotd: don’t frequent the mini-bar often.

tho the last time i got seriously, obnoxiously, painful-hangover inducing drunk was in a hotel room with a bottle of cask-strength laphroaig……(bad, bad, bad morning. could barely get up to check out at noon).

  • QotD: Only thing I’ve ever had out of the mini-bar is Fuji water in Vegas… Was so thirsty from walkin up and down the strip that I splurged and took a bottle out of the fridge… Best $9 bottle of water I ever had…actually, thankfully, the only $9 bottle of water I ever had 🙂

QOTD: The best I ever had was a Coke that I removed the top from, drank it and then filled it with water so I didn’t have to pay for it.

    BTW loved the flip cam.

  • That was a fun fun show. The cap wards off the bugs?

QOTD: I’ve been in hundreds of hotels and motels and have never procured anything from a mini-bar. Honest truth. Now, I have been given a message when I checked into a resort in Tucson that read “I have a surprise at 6pm in the lobby” only to find a friend sitting there with two glasses and who toted a ’97 Dominus from DC! The truth.

    Cheers!

  • Loved this informal ep Gary! 🙂 Great idea!
Highlight was the bathroom sink spit bucket, nice touch.
What kind of a boutique hotel does not have wine glasses available?

Would love to see more! …maybe clean up ur room a little first 😉

    Goofball!

QOTD: I don’t like throwing my money away, so, nothing. Bring your own booze into the room and have a real party.

Awesomeness. These are the times that make you great Gary!

QOTD: I’ve never stayed in a hotel where I wouldn’t have had to pay, so I’ve never taken anything from the mini bar. You have more guts than me 🙂

Hey, I got a room there for my 21st birthday, and hit the Sunset Strip that night. Good times.

Fun clip. Like the format (every once and awhile).

QOTD: I don’t think I’ve ever had a minibar beverage… sorry. Not even at the Sofitel.

  • J Crazy

Before I moved to Japan me and all my homies went to Vegas for a “See ya soon J Crazy” party-a-la-three days at the Presidential Sweet in the Marriot. It was an awesome room, HUGE with a jacuzzi, two big flat screen TVs, beds and couches for days and me plus 12 of my closest peeps. We all pitched in (save myself) for the room and people were crashing anywhere they could find space. Our plan was to paint the town red but the room was so fat we decided to look into the mini bar and found a bottle of Grey Goose. Fast forward through a trip to the super market for cranberry juice, tequila, beer, chips, other snacks and more Grey Goose and we’re back at the hotel, it’s noon, and me and my best friends–absolutely the most awesome people in the world–are drinking vodka and juice and having just the most amazing time. Laughter til you cry. Drunken confessions of “I LOVE YOU ALL MAN!!”, a friend trying to iron his shirt even though the plug wasn’t in the wall, almost getting kicked out of Benni Hana’s, and all sorts of unspeakable debauchery for the next 36hours all made up for one of the most memorable times of my life.

QOTD (guessing at it so far): Most interesting was some long time ago at a very small hotel in the Loire Valley ? they had two gratis small carafes of the local white wine which was gracious of them, to say the least. And small tumblers to drink it from.

But also in the fridge was a litre bottle of a fizzy soda called “Pshittt!”. Made a good photo op…

  • Great episode GV. Long time watcher, but I’m not sure I’ve commented before.

QOTD: I was incredibly thirsty and just needed something to drink. It was like 40°C (100°F or more). I grabbed a couple different fruit juices, sparkling water and some iced tea and threw it all in a glass. Incredibly, it was fantastic, but I don’t know the ratios or anything, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make it again.

Really enjoyed the episode. I would love to see more of these non-traditional shows such as selecting wine in a chain restaurant.

  • QOTD- All of the Tecate out of the mini bar after hurricane Henrietta in Cabo San Lucas 1996. It was the day we were supposed to fly out so I was out of provisions and everything in town was closed due to flooding.

  • Sorry, I stay the hell away from minibars – bad stuff at worse prices.

Although the last time I was at the DC Hyatt, had a wonderful time at Cure. Think I spent about $15 on food and $40 on wine. Not a bad selection, either, for a hotel restaurant.

  • Mike K from Canada

Admitted lurker coming out of the weeds.
Thanks for the dedication to your craft!

QOTD: BIG ice cold bottle of water at 3am after a very, VERY hot night with a new lady friend. Tasted like the finest Sauv B. Crisp and refreshing.

I like the format of this episode. Big fan of the flipcam. I see some hugely awesome new possibilities that bring a little variety to the show.

QOTD: honestly don’t think I’ve ever partaken from the minibar as they rape you with the prices (and the stuff doesn’t tend to be all that great).

  • Jaque Noir

QOTD: I was at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel in Monaco and I had a club soda. Ok, doesn’t sound great but i mixed it with a little sugar and absinthe I picked up when I was in Nice, FR. After a crazy night on the town, I returned to the hotel and ordered room service at 4 am. It was my first trip overseas and I didn’t know much French. I ended up getting a cheeseburger that could still “Moo.” As I look back to what I ate that night, it was more like cheeseburger tartare.

QOTD: A can of Heineken. We had a whole 12 pack with but drank from the hotel bar because that was cold. We replaced it with our cheap and warm one. Things just taste better when you play with the system.

Oh, did I mention we were in New Orleans trying to escape a hurricane that hit Houston? Oh the irony.
