phrase of the day – ‘Thunder Rack’

Love the fact that Gary is still pushing the boundaries and being inventive. He films this episode in his hotel room (the camera is high quality by the way….watch out Mott) and is as engaging as usual

QOTD: Not sure I had a beverage from the mini-bar–maybe a diet Coke from The Benson Hotel in Portland, OR. We were more interested in the peanut M&M’s. I do remember being charged about 6 bucks. Should have researched the liquor inventory–probably the same price as the Coke. Nice hotel. We stayed the weekend and enjoyed downtown Portland—great city, and embarked on a weeklong wine vacation in Oregon.

  • Fun show. I love that fact that there is no behind the scenes with Garyvee.

    Its a full immersion.

    Thanks for sharing your passion.

OOTD: I love the specialty Iced Teas. Or anything unique to the area.

  • Gary, one of the coolest episodes I have seen in a long time. I love the grittiness of the wobbly camera, the hotel room, your Macbook Air, etc. I think it was an amazing way to show how human you still are and in a world of hot headed celebs that only care for themselves, this is amazing. Great work man, peace.

are you coming down to san diego at all? if you are there a few cool wineshops/winebars that kick ass.check out silverlake wine while in LA.

    Gary –
Unique episode. Not one of my favorites but you get an “A” for effort. Couple funny lines in there also.

    Hope you feel better.

QTD – nothing exciting here that I can recall.

Great show, I loved the spitting in the sink! You lucky travelin’ SOB!

QOTD: A Southern Comfort 1/5 when I was in Vegas. Just got off the plane and started a crazy night off with that.

  • As the others say, awesome show, and awesome idea for doing episodes on the road!

QOTD: Bottled water from a hotel in Iraklion, Greece, when it was 106 degrees out and I was going out to an archaeological dig with some classmates — far from any other sources of water, needless to say 🙂

  • Great idea for a show, loved it even though I was feeling some nausea due to the camera work!

I don’t drink anything from minibars, too cheap! Come back later and tell us how much that cost you…I would love to know!

June, 1989. Galeao Int. Airport, Rio de Janeiro. After hours of delays from flooding rain, a massive thunderstorm cell closed all flights around Midnight. For the inconvenience (half a day waiting), Air Canada put my entire flight up at the Hotel Othon Copacabana. My folks’ place is on Ipanema, about a mile down the beach, but I was required to stay near, with a pager for flight updates. The minibar had crackers, cheese, nuts, cans of Antarctica ( like their Miller), but also, a couple of bottles of Caracu Oscura, a rich, malty ,black beer. Since 1889, it is the first Latin American stout. Only 5.4%abv, after an aggravating day of sitting, waiting, I drank ’em & passed out to the satellte TV.

The Atlantic storm cells were so big and bad, that the next day, our flight squandered a bunch of fuel trying to circumnavigate it out over the Atlantic. Then we had to unexpectedly go back to Miami to refuel, cause we wouldn’t make Toronto. By the time we did get to Toronto, it was the middle of the next night, and no connections were going out to my home, Cleveland. They put me up another night at the Airport hotel. In my diary, I called it my Western Hemisphere Aimless and Senseless tour 1989. The theme song was “Stranded” by the Saints.

    Yes! More WLTV Mobile!

QOTD: the Ritz in Coconut Grove, where a friend and I drank . . . the entire minibar. Unsurprisingly, I remember very little except the bill.

  • Thanks for specifying Bryan with a “y”. We Bri(y)ans are very sensitive about “i” vs. “y”.

Hilarious show. I love the impromptu.

  • Hey Gary!

Stop being sorry about everything, especially the hat, ‘cuz the hat is great!

Fantastic show, very immediate and real.

PS – Love your new layout at garyvaynerchuk.com

QOTD: Heineken from a partner’s mini bar after crushing the other side on the last day of trial in court. Everyone raided their mini bars and converged on the suite one of the partners was staying in and we all drank and celebrated till the wee hours.

Awesome show! I would love for you to keep doing this when you travel around. As for QOTD, I haven’t been to a hotel since I turned 21, so I got nothing. Enjoy the warmth down there, old Spokane, WA is pretty miserable right now.

    Cheers

  • Good off-the-cuff episode…..whatchya doing in L.A.?

QOTD – I’ve lost track of all the hotel rooms and mini-bars over the years, and I can’t recall any stand-out memory other than a general rule….don’t drink the wine!

Great show Gary! Wish I owned a hotel to see what wines you would pick for the “Thunder Rack”.

Thanks for mixing it up yet again.
    Gary on the run……………
I mean, who can afford anything from the Hotel room bar?
    However,
When we were in Buenos Aires a couple of years ago, the only wine in the room for purchase was a 2006 Callia Alta Shiraz-Malbec. As I recall, the price converted to about $7 American. We found it to be one of our main staples while there, and even brought back several bottles on our return. (The last bottle was downed last Thursday.) As I can’t seem to find a local distributor, it looks like another trip should be planned. While nothing very special, we do find it an excellent drinking wine.

    Hi Gary
I am a brand new viewer of WinelibraryTV from England, and unfortunately, also a long suffering Jets fan (WHEN WILL THE NIGHTMARE END). I’m gonna try and work my way through all the back episodes (I’m only at episode 14 at the moment) because I already think that these programmes are the best thing on the internet. The latest hotel episode is great as it shows that you are still as excited about wine as when you started.

My question of the day. Is there another industry that has as many so-called experts that know absolutely nothing (or refuse to do blind tastings!)?

I doubt it. Right, back to episode 15, I’ll catch up with you in a year or so.

  • Great episode, you should have been doing these months ago with all the travel you do! Anyway QOTD, best beverage I ever had out of a mini bar was a bottle of FIJI water. I know it sounds lame, but I was suuuuuper thirsty on the Oregon Coast and the water from the tap tasted like dirt and dung…so it was amazing!!! keep on keeping on.

    Great idea. Great show.

qotd: a mini vodka bottle, or two, but I can’t divulge the story behind it.

  • Great vid Gary.

Hotels generally have a few beers to choose from but never much wine. I love your idea for having a wine bar.
