  • New to this scene (not to wine but to this show). Love it!!

    Looking forward to trying Pomerol because I can’t remember ever having any.

    Gary, I have to agree with some, that in general tv is not worth watching and the “reality” type shows are just a cheap way to produce, and pawn off as worthwhile, shows that are really a waste of time. Just think how much you can do in that hour! TV reduces your productivity.

    Some advice for a soon to be parent, Gary please keep the tv off for the first few years of your child’s life. Get down on the floor and play and read to your child everyday! Watch clouds and bugs and animals not the big glass nipple.

    We watched tv for children when my son was 1-3 years old. We noticed that it reduced his attention span and created problems when it was time to turn it off. It is also pretty un nerving to see your child stare blankly at the screen with their mouth hanging open and brain on “hold”. It was suggested to us that we remove media from the equation and after taking the advice we noticed a complete change. Maybe not the choice everyone would make but when you put your child’s mental and physical health first you see that there really is no place for TV. It can be a great “baby sitter” but at what cost in the long run. Studies have been showing that tv slows down brain function and many other effects thought of as negative.

    Get outside and discover the amazing world we live in first hand. Like tasting dirt, flowers and leather you can learn way more from the experience if you are part of it and not just watching.

    One last thing, just because you love sports doesn’t mean your child has too. Give them time and room to discover what they enjoy and if it isn’t the same as you then rejoice in the individual you have helped create.

  • Beverly:

    Best temperature to keep wine :

    The ideal temperature to keep wine is between 50 and 57°F (10 and 14°C)

    Wine needs a constant temperature all year round to mature.

    A fridge is not a suitable place to keep wine as vibrations will destroy some of its components.

    Recommended temperature for chilling wine:

    * Red wine: 55-60°F / 12.7-15.5°C
    * White wine: 49-56°F / 9.5-13.3°C
    * Rosé wine: 49-51°F / 9.5-10.5°C

    Good quick hit episode with laid back vibe that didn’t cancel out the “thunder” factor . . . that being said, all the good was undone by a QOTD which included the words “american idol” (unless that was simply an attempt on your part to humanize yourself in the eyes of those Vaniacs already at the alter). Peace.

  • The Lurk Monster

    Good show, short and sweet. I have not yet had a Pomerol because I am a CKC and we don’t have very much money.

    I am going Michael Sarver for AI.

    good show. Its always nice to see pomerol get more love

    question uno: I love pomerol. It just exudes sex and velvet for me when I drink them. They can get so ridiculously good when they age too, and its a lot of fun to drink well aged merlot as it just brings something completely different

    Forgot to say thanks for sharing from your personal collection. Too bad one was a let down.

    Nice to see that you bash yourself for being wrong on the longevity of a wine.That’s something that only time will tell for sure. Don’t beat yourself up too much.

    I too am interested in what size of cellar you manage at home and/or if you also keep some at work? Hey you might not even drink wine when your at home and just have a couple bottles for company. That’s it right, you’ve got a small keg of Pabst in the pantry, at room temp, for after work. He he

    Gary goes old school and gives us a blog that looks like 99% of the videos on the internet. He’s just a guy sitting in his living room drinking. Awesome.

    QOTD2: Danny Gokey will win American Idol,but will then flop when he puts out his first record. Sorry.

  • QotD: Pomerol, I have a bottle or two in the fridge, don’t really know a lot about the little commune, but as I study Bordeaux I’m sure it’ll come up a few times 🙂

    As for Idol, Adam is going to take it.. however, he’s going to get voted off and the judges will invoke the new rule, save him, and he’ll go on to win!!!

  • QOTD1: Never had a Pomerol but from the way you described the 2nd bottle, I have a friend that I think would love one as a gift.

    QOTD2: don’t watch AI – Lost baby! Oh, and A’s baseball baby 😉

    Great epi and wines!
    QOTD1: Pomerol…small and a classy appelation producing wines with great finesse and elegance like a feminine styled Bordeaux, yet not tainted by descriptive classes/rankings. Hence, great traditional wines once again!

    QOTD2: Adam L?

    Love Pomerol. Love Merlot. Adam Lambert wins. How big is your wine cooler? Is that your only “cellar” besides the winelibrary of course? How long is your upper limit to keeping a bottle in the cooler. Just looking to get one of my own, so I am interested in your EXPERT opinion. Loved the show as always.

    Hi Gary:

    Your timing is incredible. This past week and this one, we’ve tried the Gazín 03, and could not agree more with your assessment of it. We enjoyed it very much, everybody should try it. Price quality is excellent for a great Pomerol. Thanks for your review!!!

    I don’t know how long the tab for “Gary’s Ratings” has been up on the site, but I just took a peek, and it’s super helpful, a perfect addition to the website.

    QOTD1: Haven’t had any Pomerol 🙁
    QOTD2: Haven’t watched a single episode of the new season…

    QOTD 1: There are a few producers that lean more heavy on the cab franc in Pomerol and thats what i tend to look for. However, the wines of this appellation tend to be out of my price range.

    QOTD 2: dont watch

    BTW what are those 3 ring binders in the tv stand filled with?
